SOUTHLAND: BRIEFLY : MINOR EARTHQUAKES MAKE REGION RUMBLE.


Four unrelated earthquakes rattled a wide stretch of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  on Saturday, including a magnitude-3.0 aftershock af·ter·shock

Also Saturday, an aftershock to Friday's magnitude-4.9 earthquake jolted San Diego County, and two unrelated quakes were reported in San Bernardino and Inyo counties, authorities said.

No damage was reported in any of the quakes.

The magnitude-3.3 San Diego County temblor hit at 4:53 a.m. Saturday and was centered five miles north of Borrego Springs, Jones said.

Elsewhere, a magnitude-3.7 earthquake centered four miles northwest of San Bernardino hit at 3:24 a.m.

In Inyo County, a magnitude-3.5 quake struck at 5:46 a.m. and was centered 15 miles south-southwest of Little Lake, north of Ridgecrest.

Glendale man wins $95,000 on Big Spin

SACRAMENTO - A respiratory therapist from Glendale won $95,000, the top prize in the California Lottery's Big Spin show broadcast Saturday.

Hermie Lopez said he plans to invest in his children's education and take a vacation to the Hawaiian Islands. He was one of five winners who won a combined $275,000.

Other winners were Billie Brider of Los Angeles and George Espinoza of Berkeley, who each won $50,000. Alfred Simoni of Martinez and Joel Ochoa of Los Angeles each won $40,000.

Honolulu TV reports L.A. suspect's death

A man charged with transporting a woman from California to Hawaii for prostitution died following his arrest in Los Angeles, it was reported in Honolulu.

Inglewood gunshot kills 2-year-old boy

INGLEWOOD - A 2-year-old boy was shot to death by a stray bullet as he rode on his father's shoulders across a street, police said Saturday.

Erick Jimenez was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital following the attack, which occurred shortly before midnight, Sgt. Bill Thompson said.

After an air and ground search, 10 people were taken into custody for questioning.

Attorneys from the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund Inc. want to review the LAPD's arrest records. Previous attempts to obtain them were evaded, they said.
