Los Angeles International Airport (IATA: LAX, ICAO: KLAX, FAA LID: LAX
had to rely on backup radar systems when a main computer failed Saturday, causing a delay for international flights landing at the airport.

The computer problem at a radar center in Palmdale occurred about 12:30 p.m. and was fixed about 2 p.m., said Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), component of the U.S. Department of Transportation that sets standards for the air-worthiness of all civilian aircraft, inspects and licenses them, and regulates civilian and military air traffic through its air traffic control  spokesman Bruce Nelson.

But the problem prompted controllers to order a 16-mile separation between airplanes coming from abroad, creating a chain-reaction delay that lasted hours, said Dale Harris, LAX's operations supervisor.

``We still have a few airplanes delayed,'' Harris said at 5:30 p.m.
