SOUTHLAND: BRIEFLY : 1 SEVERELY BURNED IN HOLLYWOOD FIRE.


One woman was badly burned and another broke a wrist jumping from a second-floor window as fire engulfed part of a Hollywood apartment building Saturday, authorities said. Forty people lost their homes.

Two other people suffered minor injuries, said Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells Jim Wells MLA (born 27 April 1957) is a politician from the Democratic Unionist Party and a deputy speaker of the Transitional Assembly (Northern Ireland).

Wells is one of six Assembly members for South Down.
. The cause was not immediately determined.

The blaze in the North Argyle Avenue building was reported at 7:14 a.m. The fire burned in a stairwell stair·well

. The 25-year-old woman who jumped was taken to Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

South Central bin yields dead infant

The body of a newborn boy was found Saturday in a trash bin in South Central Los Angeles, a police sergeant said.

The body was discovered about 11 a.m. by two people rummaging through garbage in a container at South Main and 25th streets, said Sgt. Terry Barclay of the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Station.

``The investigation is being considered a homicide pending the results of an autopsy,'' said LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

Cox said workers at area hospitals were asked to be on the alert for females seeking medical treatment after recently giving birth.

Woman arrested in slayings of 2

A 19-year-old woman was arrested for investigation in the slayings of a Lemon Heights entrepreneur and his mother, sheriff's officials said Saturday.

The bodies of John Tyler Hancock, 49, who claimed to be descended from Declaration of Independence signer John Hancock, and his 77-year-old mother, were found May 8. They were shot and their bodies burned. They were discovered in the smoldering smol·der also smoul·der
