Sandlin, however, defaulted because of a nagging back injury.

``I knew it would be a great match,'' Sandlin said about the 45-0 Gonzalez. ``It's just great that I made it to the finals. I never dreamed of this.''

The top eight wrestlers in each division qualified for the state meet next weekend in Stockton.

In the 275-pound final, Simi Valley's Chad Troxler (42-5) suffered a 4-2 overtime loss to Rosemead's Hector Torres Hector Torres (born September 16, 1945 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico was a shortstop/second baseman in Major League Baseball who played for the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays. , the state's top-ranked wrestler.

In the semifinals, the senior defeated Hyatt Moore of Dana Hills 8-5 before deciding to call it quits.

``I was going to stop after the second match, but (Moore) was a chump and I went out there and beat him,'' Sandlin said. ``There is no need to mess it up for state. I just wanted to place in the top eight.''
