SOUTHERN SECTION WRESTLING: STANDOUT FINALLY MEETS MATCH HIGHLAND STAR MCGUFFEE PINNED.

Byline: Kirby Lee Staff Writer

CHINO HILLS - Jeremiah McGuffee went the whole season without losing until the 152-pound final of the Southern Section Inland Division individual wrestling championships Saturday night at Ayala High.

However, McGuffee wasn't feeling too badly after being pinned by Redlands East Valley senior Mike O'Hara 1:49 into the first period.

Although McGuffee (39-6) became the latest victim for O'Hara (36-1), the 2003 Masters Meet champion at 145 pounds and the seventh-place finisher in the state meet, the Highland of Palmdale senior had the distinction of notching the first takedown Takedown

McGuffee was well aware of his opponent's credentials after O'Hara, who was named the upper weight most valuable wrestler of Saturday's meet, defeated Highland graduated teammate Evans Salas 12-0 in last year's section championships.

``I knew I had to give it my all. If you are going to get pinned, why not get pinned by the state champ?'' McGuffee said. ``I tried to wrestle at the top of my game but against a guy like that, it's not good enough.''

McGuffee might get another shot at O'Hara in the Masters Meet on Feb. 27-28. Like McGuffee, Garcia (29-8) also received a tough draw in the final against Ayala senior Nick Ketelsleger (35-4).
