SOUTHERN SECTION VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: LARSEN HAS 31 KILLS TO SPICE CANYON WIN.

When the Canyon High girls' volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. An upright net, 3 ft (or 1 m) high, the top of which stands 8 ft (2.43 m) from the ground for men, 7 ft 4 1/8 in (2.  team needed Haley Larsen the most Tuesday, the junior delivered.

Larson had 31 kills, the most by any Canyon player in seven years, as her team rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat host California of Whittier 9-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-8 in a Southern Section Div. I-A opener.

``I've never seen a girl, on our team or any other team, have 31 kills in game. It's rare,'' coach Dave Guiterrez said. ``She's always had the physical ability, now she's getting the mental aspect of things. She's outstanding.''

 Deagon added 13 kills, including the match-winning spike for Canyon (10-7), which plays host Arroyo Grande in a second-round game Thursday at 7 p.m.

In other Div. I-A games:

--Glendora d. Hart 3-0: Bridgette Redmond and Julie Barcus each had seven kills and Shannon Slatter had 21 assists for Hart of Newhall (14-3), which lost at home 25-21, 25-20, 28-26 in a first-round game.

In Div. I-AA:

Los Alamitos Racetrack and U.S. military installations are nearby.  on Thursday at 7 p.m.

--Thousand Oaks d. Camarillo 3-0: Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown. , ranked No. 3 by the Daily News, defeated the visitors 25-12, 26-24, 25-14 behind a 16-kill effort from Bryn Porter.

Teammate Jackie Hill added nine kills and Jenn Green had 30 assists.

--Littlerock d. Montebello 3-0: Carolyn Gorny had nine kills and Jada Walker 19 assists for host Littlerock (16-7) in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-8 first- round victory.

In Div. II-AA:

--Santa Barbara d. Moorpark 3-1: Visiting Moorpark (12-7) gave top-seeded Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850.  trouble throughout but eventually lost 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 in a wild-card match.

Kelley Hanson (24 kills), Courtney Holman (11 kills), Cori Pogemiller (12 digs) and Lauren Hartnett (31 assists) each contributed for Moorpark (12-7).

--Westlake d. Martin Luther King 3-2: Alex Johnson

    --Oaks Christian d. St. Joseph 3-0: Julie Rubenstein had 17 kills and 11 digs for host Oaks Christian of Westlake Village in a 25-11, 26-24, 25-19 first-round victory.

    Claire Cindric had 10 kills and 12 digs, Kelsey Weireter had three aces and 20 digs and Erica Sanders had 30 assists and 19 digs for Oaks Christian (13-4).

    --Milken d. Carpinteria 3-0 Rachel Gross had 10 kills and five blocks in a 25-17, 25-12, 28-26 first-round victory for host Milken of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  (20-0), which advances to Thursday's second round against Cerritos Valley Christian.
