SOUTHERN SECTION VOLLEYBALL: WESTLAKE WINS IN FIVE GAMES.

For the second consecutive year, the Westlake girls' volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. An upright net, 3 ft (or 1 m) high, the top of which stands 8 ft (2.43 m) from the ground for men, 7 ft 4 1/8 in (2.  team won its Division I-AA opener against an opponent from the Moore League.

"We will go down there and give it our best," Westlake coach Ernest Rittenhouse said. "They have knocked us out before, so we know them well."

Oaks Christian 3, Barstow 0: After outlasting Palmdale in Monday's wild-card match, visiting Barstow (6-12) was no match for the top-seeded Lions (19-2), who advanced with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 victory.

Tara Ahern had 13 kills and Shannon Armstrong added eight kills and nine digs for Oaks Christian, which received 20 assists from Glenna Roberts and 15 digs from Rachel Denniston.

Inga McManus had 14 kills, Alexa Micek added 11 kills, Britney Messier contributed 22 digs and Julianne Martinez recorded 27 assists for the Eagles (19-5).

Village Christian 3, Glenn 1: Rachel Taylor had 17 kills and Megan Wiechmann added 27 assists for the top-seeded Crusaders (24-2) in a 25-11, 25-8, 22-25, 25-7 victory.

DIV. II-A

Burroughs 3, La Sierra 0: After winning their first league title since 1994, the host Indians (19-6) continued to build momentum with a 25-14, 25-8, 25-15 win.

Karissa Lagmay recorded 11 kills and Jamie Loporchio had 16 assists for Burroughs.

Storie Blake added seven kills and recorded 10 consecutive service points in the second game for the Mustangs.
