SOUTHERN SECTION VOLLEYBALL: CANYON HANDLES PALMDALE DAILY NEWS.


Skyler Chambers had 17 kills to spark Canyon High to a convincing 15-3, 15-6, 15-7 sweep of visiting Palmdale (6-9) in Southern Section Division I boys' volleyball action Friday night.

The Cowboys (13-3) travel to sixth-seeded Royal on Tuesday.

Jesse Alo added seven kills, six assists, two blocks and two digs, and Marcos Borja had 11 kills. Palmdale's Justin Honings had seven kills.

In other Southern Section openers Friday:

--Lynwood d. Camarillo 3-1: For the third year in a row, the Scorpions lost in the first round of the playoffs, this time falling 14-16, 15-3, 15-9, 15-12 to visiting Lynwood in a Division I match.

Shaky passing and setting hurt Camarillo (12-5), the co-champion of the Pacific View League. Lynwood (11-4), the second-place team from the San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire.  League, got stronger as the match wore on, especially the setting of Fabian DeLaTorre.

Chris Wilderman and Matt Wallman led Camarillo with 12 kills apiece. Tanu Hsu had 18 kills and Selmo Reynoso added six blocks for Lynwood.

Mayfair 3-0: Outside hitter Ryan Foltz Ryan Foltz is an American producer, engineer, recordist and multi-talented musician who has worked and/or played with acts such as Rancid, Dropkick Murphys[1], Nick Wolff Band, The GC5, Tall Pines, Lars Fredriksen and the Bastards and Tim Armstrong.  had 20 kills and setter Jim Ritchie added five kills and 35 assists to lead the Warriors (11-6) to a 15-9, 16-14, 15-9 upset of the top-seeded Monsoons (15-2) in a Division III

Foltz led Westlake in the first game with five kills, and middle blocker Wes Rundle had five successive service points to seal the victory.

--Valencia d. Peninsula 3-0: Corey Feldt appropriately banged home a match point to lift the host Vikings past the Panthers 15-8, 15-7, 16-14 for the first volleyball playoff victory in Valencia High history.

Feldt led Valencia (27-4) with 16 kills, nine digs and six blocks. Fellow senior Chris Haigh added 14 kills and nine digs, junior Chris Savage chipped in 11 kills and 15 digs, and setter Brian Edwards had 44 assists. At one point, the Foothill League champions ran off 20 of 21 straight points.

--Saugus d. Quartz Hill 3-0: Saugus continued its dominance of Quartz Hill with a 15-10, 15-7, 15-12 Division II victory at Quartz Hill.

Outside hitter Chad Krogh led the Centurions with 18 kills and teammate Anthony Frattali added 50 assists and two aces.

Scott Simons had 34 assists and Kevin Ellison Kevin Ellison (born February 23 1979 in Liverpool, England) is a footballer, currently in his second spell with Chester Ciy. The player has had a varied career (predominantly spent as a left winger) that saw him be a latecomer to professional football but then briefly grace the  registered 12 kills to lead the Rebels.

--Crescenta Valley d. California 3-0: Senior outside hitter Sean Jeppsen had 14 kills and five blocks to lead the host Falcons of La Crescenta to a 15-6, 15-10, 15-11 Division II victory over the Condors (10-7).

--Moorpark d. Gahr 3-0: Cary Hanson led the Musketeers with 18 kills as they swept the Gladiators gladiators [Lat.,=swordsmen], in ancient Rome, class of professional fighters, who performed for exhibition. Gladiatorial combats usually took place in amphitheaters. They probably were introduced from Etruria and originally were funeral games.  15-11, 15-1, 15-11 in a Division III match at Gahr of Cerritos.

Moorpark (13-5) trailed 10-5 in the first game before rolling off five straight points to tie and then five more to finish it off. Moorpark then polished off Gahr (14-7) in just nine minutes in the second game.

Chris Sayers contributed 11 kills for the Musketeers. Danny Watson Danny Watson is a political talkback radio host based in Auckland New Zealand.

--Alemany d. Paraclete 3-0: Darrin Phillips had 14 kills, Tony Walker six assists and five aces and Macklyn Eick 29 assists as the Indians (12-5), who finished fourth in the Mission League, swept the Spirits 15-13, 15-3, 15-0 in a Division IV match at Paraclete.
