Although the Westlake girls' team had the best finish (10th), it was a more successful meet for individuals.

Both of Gyuris' times were school records, and his 51.24 was more than a second faster than his prelims time (52.44).

``It wouldn't have crushed me completely (if I didn't win a championship),'' Gyuris said. ``It's nice to have. I'm pretty happy I got to win one.''

With that, Gyuris' high school career - during which he owned the sprint and butterfly events in the region - ended.

``I'm done,'' he said with a smile. ``I can't say too much about it now.''

Although the Westlake girls' team did not live up to its expectations of placing in the top five, 10th place in this year's fast meet was certainly respectable. And, as T.O.'s Gyuris, a senior leader went out in style.

Taryn O'Leary came back from a miserable section meet last year to finish third in the 50 freestyle in 24.40, a personal best. Royal junior Jennifer Palmberg (25.60) and Westlake sophomore Sarah Bultema (25.63) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the consolation finals.

Bultema also finished seventh (59.69) in the 100 butterfly finals.

``I'm very happy with my Westlake career,'' O'Leary said. ``I could not have picked a better year to close off with.''

The Royal boys' team, after winning its first league championship since 1983, made a strong showing in Division I by finishing 13th. Attesting to its balance, Royal did it without a single swimmer among the top eight at the finals.

Junior Justin McClure finished 10th (4:41.20) in the 500 freestyle and 13th (55.35) in the 100 backstroke. He dropped nearly a full second off his backstroke time in the finals.

Creek also finished eighth (2:10.66) in the 200 individual medley. She dropped almost two seconds off her preliminary time in the finals.

``That was a good time for me, I'm happy about that,'' Creek said. ``I did as good as I possibly could. That was my best time ever.''

Westlake senior Calley Prezzano finished her career with a seventh-place finish (1:00.23) in the 100 backstroke. She also took 13th (53.93) in the 100 freestyle.

Thousand Oaks junior Katie Eisenhard finished 14th (1:59.17) in the 200 freestyle and 11th (5:14.54) in the 500 freestyle.
