SOUTHERN SECTION SOFTBALL PREVIEW: HARD-HITTING HART GOES ON ROAD.Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer Five hits in one game doesn't conjure images of the famed 1928 New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. That's how many hits Hart had Tuesday against California in a 1-0 second-round win in the Southern Section Division II playoffs. The win moved the Indians into today's quarterfinals against host and top-seeded Cerritos. Although five hits may not seem like much, they came against a good pitcher, so Hart coach Cathy Giordano was more than pleased. Besides, Hart struck out only two times, which means the Indians were making contact, and, for Giordano, that is the important stat when determining whether a softball team is playing well offensively. ``We were hitting the ball hard,'' Giordano said. ``I thought we hit the ball very well.'' It didn't hurt that Hart pitcher Amanda Fortune threw a perfect game against the Condors, striking out 11. ``The playoffs are about timing, and for Amanda it was the right time, the right team and the right place. She pitched a terrific game,'' Giordano said. Ironically, Fortune wasn't scheduled to pitch Tuesday. But when porjected starter Lindsey Kontra got sick, Giordano started Fortune for the second consecutive playoff game Noun 1. playoff game - one game in the series of games constituting a playoff game - a single play of a sport or other contest; "the game lasted two hours" playoff - any final competition to determine a championship .
