Oak Park 35, Templeton 8: Darren McGee rushed for two first-half touchdowns and passed for two more in the second half for Oak Park (10-1) in a Northwest Division game.

McGee completed 17 of 23 passes for 231 yards, including two touchdowns to Kyle Benton (eight catches for 145 yards) for 30 and 21 yards.

CENTRAL

Santa Clara 28, Paraclete 21: Santa Clara's Cierre Wood intercepted Paraclete of Lancaster quarterback Kenny Brown with no time remaining as host Santa Clara of Oxnard won a first-round game at Channel Islands High.

Santa Clara (10-1) broke a 21-21 tie with 1:10 remaining in the game on a 67-yard touchdown run by Wood, who finished with 225 yards on 15 carries and four touchdowns.

Paraclete (6-5) rallied from a 21-0 deficit to tie the score.

Harvard-Westlake 31, Baldwin Park 14: John Howe completed 13 of 20 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 80 yards and two scores for No. 4 Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (9-2).

Howe scored on runs of 13 and 16 yards to lead the Wolverines to their eighth straight win.

Moreno Valley 21, Burroughs 19: Corey Howard threw for 111 yards and a touchdown but top-seeded Burroughs of Burbank (9-2) fell to visiting Moreno Valley (7-4).

Nick Bryant gave Burroughs a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when he stripped Moreno Valley Isaiah Moxley of the ball and ran 23 yards for the score.

Burroughs closed to within 21-19 with 8:37 remaining, thanks to Joe Wiggan who carried 25 times for 90 yards.

Rancho Verde 45, Burbank 18: Tim Hunter passed for 237 yards but Burbank (6-5) couldn't keep up with host Rancho Verde (9-2).

Burbank's James Antaplyan had 147 receiving yards, including a 77-yard score.

MID-VALLEY

Verbum Dei 53, L.A. Baptist 0: The Knights of North Hills (6-5) committed threeearly turnovers, and Verbum Dei cruised to an easy win.

Brandon Summers (217 yards) completed just five passes, but each went for a touchdown, including three to UCLA-bound Akeem Ayers.

The Knights' lone highlight was Matt Lazarus' 62-yard run on their first offensive play.

Village Christian 49, Mary Star 30: Village Christian of Sun Valley (9-2) scored 42 second-half points to beat visiting Mary Star of the Sea of San Pedro (4-7).

Chris Handy rushed for 267 yards on 22 carries, including four touchdowns. Handy also threw for scores of 47 and 40 yards, both to Trey Williams, who finished with three catches for 116 yards.

Handy added a 93-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Duarte 37, La Canada 7: Chris Harris had 209 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead host Duarte (9-2) to a victory over visiting La Canada (6-5).

La Canada's Lavelle Peterson rushed for 201 yards on 40 attempts. He scored from 18 yards with five seconds left.

EIGHT-MAN

Thacher 34, Faith Baptist 28: Kurt Weischadle rushed for 164 yards and two scores, but defending Div. I eight-man champion Faith Baptist of Canoga Park lost in the quarterfinals to Thacher of Ojai (10-1).

The loss snapped the Contenders' state eight-man record winning streak at 35 games.

Faith Baptist (10-1) was without its starting quarterback Jack Rudolph, who missed the game with a deep bone bruise in his throwing wrist.
