SOUTHERN SECTION ROUNDUP: CANYON CORRALS ETIWANDA IN 4TH.

John Gilbert's 21-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter broke a 7-7 tie and Louis Montano added two touchdowns for Canyon (10-1), which broke open a defensive battle for a 24-7 victory in a Southern Section Division II opener at Canyon on Friday night.

Etiwanda (8-3), which rushed for more than 500 yards last week to clinch a share of the Baseline League championship, was limited to 52 yards rushing (119 total yards) against Canyon

``There's not a chance in the world I thought that was possible,'' Canyon coach Harry Welch said.

Etiwanda's Chris LaValle was limited to 29 yards on 14 carries after rushing for a school-record 416 yards last week.

Montano gained 71 yards on 17 carries and scored on runs of 3, 2 and 3 yards. Nate Longshore Nate Longshore (born June 30, 1986 in Canyon Country, California, U.S.) is an American football quarterback for the California Golden Bears. Longshore was an Elite-11 quarterback in high school and a 4-star recruit rated by Rivals.com and Scout.com."How Far ...  was 14 of 25 for 212 yards. He connected with Sean Coen six times for 79 yards.

--San Clemente 31, Valencia 7: Charles Burnley rushed 169 yards on 22 carries for Valencia (6-5), but it wasn't enough to offset the four-touchdown performance by Cheyne Verhagen as San Clemente San Clemente (săn klĭmĕn`tē), city (1990 pop. 41,100), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast; inc. 1928. Camp Pendleton, a large U.S. marine base, adjoins the city, which is chiefly residential.  (8-3) gained the first-round playoff victory.

Verhagen scored on a 22-yard touchdown run on 15 seconds into the second quarter to complete an 85-yard scoring drive in five plays to give San Clemente a 14-0 lead. Verhagen's first touchdown came on an 11-yard run in the first quarter as the 5-foot-9, 165-pound junior rushed for 188 yards on 23 carries.

San Clemente went 91 yards for its next touchdown, the final 27 yards on a pass play from Beau Budde to Verhagen. The two connected again in the third quarter for a 13-yard pass play. Budde completed 14 of 20 passes for 190 yards, and Verhagen had four catches for 57 yards.

Valencia's only score came on a 33-yard touchdown catch by Shane Morales from Stephen Bothwell with 50 seconds remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 21-7.

On their first possession, Damien marched 10 plays in 5:30, with Daniel Venti capping the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run.

The second half belonged to Damien and its offensive line, which repeatedly opened room for Johnson. Quarterback Nick Davila Nick Davila (born May 22, 1985, in Downey, California) is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. He signed to the team as an undrafted free agent in 2007, after completing his college career at the University  completed 10 of 20 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Brooks, a senior, tried to lead a fourth-quarter comeback, hitting Ditri for a second touchdown that cut the lead to three. Brooks was 7 of 11 passing for 133 yards and added 77 rushing yards.

--Palmdale 47, Pasadena 0: Host Palmdale (10-1) scored touchdowns on six of it's seven possessions.

Jacob McCravey was 10 of 12 for 201 yards and four touchdowns. He also had a 13-yard scoring run in the second quarter and rushed for 48 yards on six carries.

Justin Shaw scored the first touchdown on a 37-yard pass from McCravey. McCravey also had a 14-yard scoring pass to Kwincy Edwards and a 33-yarder to Marvelle Strawder in the first quarter.

Palmdale held Pasadena to 69 yards total offense. The Falcons added a 1-yard touchdown run by Sean Edwards and LaRon McIntyres' 21-yard touchdown pass from McCravey.

Palmdale also scored on special teams when Dakota Golden blocked a punt and Adrian Jenkins returned it 33 yards. Palmdale had 493 total yards and removed most of its starters midway through the third quarter.

--Notre Dame 45, Downey 14: Running backs Cary Harris and Brandon Clayton and quarterback Marcel Marquez combined for 254 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead the third-ranked Knights of Sherman Oaks past the visiting Vikings in a Southern Section Division III first- round game.

Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  (11-0) scored on three of its first four possessions to lead 21-0 after one quarter. At the half, the Knights led 31-0 and had outgained Downey (5-5) 297-26.

Harris led all rushers with 89 yards on eight carries, and Clayton added 80 yards and scoring runs of 7 and 2 yards. Harris also intercepted a pass.

Marquez scored on runs of 7 and 12 yards en route to 85 rushing yards. The senior also connected on 6 of 10 passes for 144 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown to Nate Cordray. Alex Brochu was the primary recipient of Marquez's passes, catching three for 121 yards.

Lineman Alex Puccinelli had another outstanding game, recording a pair of sacks and recovering a muffed punt In American Football, a Muffed Punt is, "Touching of the ball prior to possessing the ball." [ChicagoSports.com [1]]

A muffed punt occurs when there is an "uncontrolled touch" of the football after it is punted.
 to pace the Knights' first-string defense, which held Downey to 20 yards and no points through the first three quarters.

--Dominguez 41, St. Francis 21: Kevin Herrron scored St. Francis' first touchdown and Will Harrahill scored on a fumblerooski shortly thereafter but St. Francis of La Canada lost the first round game in Compton.

In addition, Matt Abbey threw a late touchdown pass to Mason Eliess for St. Francis (6-5).

DIVISION IV

--Agoura 55, Redondo 18: Visiting Agoura scored 22 first-quarter points.

Dustin Crocik was 18 of 26 for 257 yards and five touchdowns. Bryan Houston caught nine passes for 115 yards, including touchdowns of 11 and 14 yards. Braden Lepistio added 127 yards on five receptions with 26- and 28-yard touchdowns.

Mike Coons had 15 carries for 78 yards touchdown runs of 2 and 3 yards.

Westlake was its own worst enemy in the third quarter, receiving five penalties for 45 yards to help Channel Islands cross midfield for the first time and set up a 30-yard field goal by Felipe Macias.

Channel Islands, which tied for second place in the Pacific View League, pulled within 15-10 when Rich Pineda returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown with 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

However, Westlake countered by driving 84 yards in eight plays, scoring on Mullaly's 14-yard run. Mullaly finished with 107 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns.

Erik Vose hit Will Faul with a 12-yard scoring pass to close out the scoring with 3:20 remaining. Vose completed 12 of 21 passes for 134 yards and two interceptions.

Mackins rushed for 72 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown, all in the first half.

Westlake outgained Channel Islands 318-102.

Down 12-0 with 3:30 left in the fourth quarter, Gladstone took a gamble and punted the ball away, hoping it could get three quick stops on defense and receive better field position. However, on the first play of the possession, tempers flared after a Randal Harris run. The penalties resulted in a combined 45 yards and consequently put Gladstone out of the game.

Crespi's rushing tandem of Harris and Daryl Fields rushed for 158 yards on 25 carries. Fields had both of Crespi's touchdowns on runs of 17 and 3 yards.

The Crespi (9-2) defense set the tempo for the game as they had five sacks, forced three fumbles and batted away numerous passes. This was Crespi's fourth shutout of the season.

--Montclair Prep 48, Mary Star 0: Montclair Prep tailbacks scored five touchdowns at Daniels Field in San Pedro.

Jay Weaver had three touchdown runs and 168 yards on 20 carries. Dal Johnson added two fourth-quarter touchdowns and 84 total yards.

Mary Star of the Sea (6-4) scored on the game's first drive. But Montclair Prep scored the three-first-half touchdowns and another four in the second half.

--Paraclete 44, LaSalle 7: Jared Nelson scored three first-quarter touchdowns for host Paraclete (8-3) at Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties. .

Paraclete lead 23-0 at the end of the first quarter, in which Nelson had 98 rushing yards. Defensive back Nate Bailey closed out the first half scoring for Paraclete with a 65 yard interception return for a touchdown.

Nelson finished with 137 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, andJames Minidis added 57 yards and two scores on 11 carries. Tommy Caton Thomas Stephen "Tommy" Caton (October 6, 1962 – April 30, 1993) was an English football player.

--Oak Park 14, Twentynine Palms 10: Before leaving on a 4-hour journey to Twentynine Palms, the Oak Park team forgot its footballs, water bottles, kicking tees, and senior Nathan Rallia forgot his pants and pads.

Luckily, Oak Park of Agoura didn't leave without quarterback Nolan McNair's arm and running back Mike Christensen's legs.

The two combined for 254 yards and single-handedly took care of host Twentynine Palms (7-4) in a first-round game.

Oak Park (6-5) opened the scoring when Christensen (three catches, 39 yards) converted a short McNair pass into a 23-yard touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Christensen (111 yards, 22 carries) scored on a 1-yard run to erase a three-point deficit and give Oak Park the eventual winning touchdown with 1:50 left to play.

McNair completed 10 of 19 passes for 143 yards. Gavin Katchum caught three passes for 41 yards and Brandon Koller caught two for 31 yards.

--Oaks Christian 42, Banning 6: Oaks Christian of Westlake Village (10-1) rolled up 323 yards of offense in the first half in a rout of visiting Banning (3-8).

Oaks Christian scored on four consecutive drives, none lasting longer than two minutes, after failing to score on its first two drives of the game.

Joey Halvle completed 9 of 19 passes for 225 yards and three touchdown passes in the first half to lead Oaks Christian to a 28-0 halftime lead. Oaks Christian's defense held Banning to minus-2 yards passing and 28 offensive yards in the first half. It held Banning to just 104 yards of offense and five first downs for the game.

Oaks Christian came out strong in the second half, with Aaron Ware scoring rushing touchdowns of 64 and 59 yards on two consecutive one-play drives.

For the game, Ware rushed 13 times for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Sean Adams caught four passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns, and John Adams There have been several notable people called John Adam:

--Desert 61, Salesian 8: Desert's Jason Napolean scored five touchdowns at home.

Napolean scored on runs of 20, 63 and 44 and he had touchdown catches of 30 and 4 yards, all in the first half as Desert led 48-0. Napolean had 12 carries for 178 yards.

The Desert (11-0) defense held Salesian to 89 yards total offense, forced two fumbles and two interceptions.

Desert had 410 yards on offense with Rudy Burgess carrying nine times for 146 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Briesmaster added 70 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.

Trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, Village Christian (8-3) scored 28 unanswered points to take a 28-7 lead late in the third quarter.

Christopher Barneck got two of the touchdowns, scoring on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, and a 42-yard screen pass in the second quarter.

William Pena had four catches for 90 yards, including a 33 touchdown.

Village Christian won despite committing 200 yards in penalties and losing four turnovers.

--Flintridge Prep 33, Marshall (Pasadena) 6: Greg Sherman threw three touchdown passes and ran for another for visiting Flintridge Prep (5-5) at John Muir High School in Pasadena.

Sherman was 5 of 7 for 105 yards, including scoring passes to Ramses Barden of 15 and 20 yards and Mike Gadel, who turned what looked to be a short gain into a 61-yard touchdown pass.

Flintridge Prep scored on four of its five first-half possessions to lead 27-0 at the half.

Alfred Yi rushed for 117 yards on just seven carries.

Campbell Hall (5-6), co-champions of the Delphic League, led 21-7 at halftime, but Hamilton controlled the ball and rallied for 21 second-half points.

Campbell Hall did not have an offensive play in the third quarter and just 10 in the second half. After falling behind 28-21 with 4:36 remaining in the game, Phelps connected with wide receiver Darryl Harris on a 41-yard pass play to cut the deficit to 28-27.

Campbell hit Jared Foy for a 31-yard touchdown on a 4th-and-11 on the game's opening drive. Campbell also scored on an 8-yard run.

Grace Brethren outrushed Rio Hondo 188-52 with Chad Kackert rushing for 94 yards on 18 carries. Campbell added 44 yards on 12 carries.

Linebacker Daniel Beaty blocked a second-quarter punt that was recovered in the end zone by Steve Gourley as Grace Brethren built a 13-0 lead.

--Linfield Christian 30, Malibu 7: Karsten Demers was 13 of 30 for 111 yards for Malibu (4-5-1) at Linfield Christian of Temecula.

Malibu's highlight came early in the second half when Tomasso Trento returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown to cut Linfield Christian's (10-1) lead to 14-7.

Later in the third quarter, Malibu coach Rich Lawson elected to run the ball on fourth-and-one and failed.

``If we got it, it would have been a different ball game,'' Lawson said.
