SOUTHERN SECTION ROUNDUP: BURBANK ENDS FOOTHILL LOSING SKID AT 51-GAMES.

Burbank High ended more than a decade of frustration Friday night, defeating host Saugus 16-14 at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  and snapping a 51-game Foothill League losing streak.

Burbank (5-2, 1-1) overcame a 14-13 deficit when Sal Coreas kicked a 29-yard field goal late in the third quarter.

On the game's final play, Travis Babin of Saugus (2-5, 0-2) connected with John Kurowski on a 43-yard pass play to the Burbank 1-yard line.

But Kurowski was called for offensive pass interference In American football and Canadian football, pass interference is when a player interferes with an eligible receiver's ability to make a fair attempt to catch a forward pass.  and Burbank declined the penalty ending the game and setting off a wild celebration of the school's first league victory since their season finale in 1992.

In another Foothill League game:

--Valencia 28, Burroughs 20: Mike Herrick scored three touchdowns and passed for another, and the Valencia (5-2, 1-1) defense had five interceptions at Burroughs of Burbank (4-3, 1-1).

Valencia led 21-0 and 28-12 but had to hold off a late Burroughs rally. The outcome was in doubt until Geoff Tisdale's interception, his third of the game, at Valencia's 2 with 1:21 remaining. Tisdale leads the Foothill League with eight interceptions.

Nick Payne rushed for a touchdown and nearly had another but fumbled at the Valencia 3. Teammate Sal Inmaung, however, caught the ball in mid-air and carried it in for the score.

Burroughs' also had two field goals from James Cullen There are different people named James Cullen:

GOLDEN LEAGUE

--Palmdale 58, Littlerock 0: Scoring 24 points before the first quarter was half over, Palmdale cruised to the easy victory on the road.

Palmdale (6-1, 2-0) scored all its points in the first half. Javonte Holmes scored four touchdowns on runs of 10 and 13 yards, a 52-yard pass from Rodney Trimm and a 25-yard fumble return.

Palmdale's defense, led by linebacker Latu Laulile, limited Littlerock (1-6, 0-2) to two first downs and no pass completions.

Trimm was 7 of 11 for 167 yards and two touchdowns.

Dominick Cornelius rushed for 102 yards on 17 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime for Lancaster.

Lancaster (3-4, 1-1) rallied from 10 points down in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Lancaster led 20-14 on a Will Morgan

Notre Dame (5-2, 1-1) set the tone early, forcing Alemany (2-5, 0-2) to punt on its first possession and then having Cary Harris score on a 16-yard run. Sophomore Garrett Green threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Nate Cordray during a 21-point second quarter. Cordray finished with 95 yards rushing and four scores on runs of 16, 50, 5, and 4 yards. Green was 7 of 11 for 153 yards.

Notre Dame's defense was just as stifling, producing three interceptions and two fumbles.

--St. Paul 45, Harvard-Westlake 0: Ben Soley caught two passes for 42 yards for Harvard-Westlake (4-3, 0-2), which managed only 72 yards of total offense and six first downs against visiting St. Paul of Sante Fe Springs (5-2, 2-0).

St. Paul scored on 7 of 10 offensive possessions.

Steven Correia had a 43-yard interception return and a 63-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Camarillo.

Brown finished 14 of 26 for 151 yards and three interceptions and fullback Michael Cruz rushed for 83 yards on 13 carries. Brandon Songer caught six passes for 73 yards.

--Oaks Christian 56, Carpinteria 7: he top-ranked team in Southern Section Div. XI looked more than worthy of that position, averaging more than a point per minute at Carpinteria.

Oak Christian (7-0, 3-0) scored on a 17-yard fumble return 17 seconds into the game.

Halzle and James Clausen combined to go 11 of 11 for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Oaks Christian led 43-7 at the half and played tough defense allowing Carpinteria (2-5, 1-3) 132 total yards.

--Nordhoff 18, Oak Park 10: Oak Park's rally was inches short when a pass from Sean Sammis sailed just out of Brandon Koller's reach in the back of the end zone with 15 seconds remaining at Nordhoff of Ojai.

Sammis started at quarterback for Oak Park (6-1, 2-1) in place of Nolan McNair, who suffered a concussion in last week's victory over Bishop Diego and wasn't cleared to play. Sammis was 11 of 21 for 146 yards.

Oak Park scored first on a 37-yard field goal by Koller in the first quarter. Koller also scored on a 23-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 18-10 with 7:06 left in the game. He had five catches for 89 yards.

Nordhoff (6-1, 4-0) led 18-3 at the half. The third touchdown for Nordhoff was the difference as Sean Baier intercepted Sammis on the Nordhoff goal-line and returned it 100 yards for the score. Oak Park committed three turnovers inside Nordhoff's 6-yard line.

HIGH DESERT LEAGUE

--Mojave 7, Desert 0: Kenny Avon scored on a 1-yard run late in the first half as host Mojave won it's third consecutive game.

Mojave (3-4, 2-0) got its first shutout of the season after having allowed 24 points per game entering the game against Desert.

Avon scored on a fourth-and-1 play with 33 seconds left in the first half. Mojave originally lined up to attempt a field goal but called timeout and decided to hand the ball to Avon.

Desert (2-5, 0-2) had just 159 yards of offense. Its best scoring chance came midway through the third quarter, but Robert Porter Robert Porter is the name of:

--Marshall 27, Grace Brethren 20: Chad Kackert returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns for Grace Brethren of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , but it was not enough to prevent a last-minute upset to Marshall at Muir High School.

Marshall (4-2, 1-0) scored the winning touchdown with 54 seconds left on a 16-yard run by Ryan Ray.

Grace Brethren had just 16 yards rushing and Eric Durso was 10 of 18 for 95 yards.

Munoz was 11 of 19 for 185 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score. Breecker caught four passes for 71 yards.

La Salle (1-6) closed within 26-20 late in the third quarter, butKirschner scored on a 7-yard run that was set up when Breecker completed a 19-yard pass to Alex Vossler on a fake punt.

Campbell Hall outgained La Salle 433 to 62 in total yards.

San Marino (2-5, 1-1) had a one-point lead with 1:26 remaining in the game. La Canada then advanced to the San Marino 43-yard line, where kicker Chris Walter tried a 60-yard field goal, but his kick was blocked.
