The Walnut girls' soccer team was hoping the moment would never come, but Thousand Oaks' size, speed and aggressiveness couldn't be denied forever.

Morris didn't waste it, re-directing a right-footed shot into the back of the net in the 77th minute to give the Lancers a 1-0 victory Tuesday and their first appearance in a championship game after eliminating the host Mustangs in the Southern Div. II semifinals.

"I can't explain how I feel," said Lancers coach Geoff Raives, whose team finally advanced to the championship after three trips to the semifinals in the last four years. "These girls worked the entire game. We kept talking about if we work hard, we'll win.

"We had about a hundred chances and the one we put away was probably the least likely one you would expect to put away. It popped straight to her (Morris). I was pulling her off and on (the field) because she was struggling, then she comes on and wins the game. It was awesome."

The Lancers (19-4-2) had two-to-three times as many chances, including a breakaway break·a·way
