SOUTHERN SECTION GOLF: AREA GOLFERS HIT THE ROUGH AT TEAM FINAL.

Byline: Dave Shelburne Daily News Staff Writer

All together, now: Wait 'til next year.

Area golf powers Westlake, Hart, Calabasas and Flintridge Prep ran into too much of a course in Monday's Southern Section team final at Saticoy Country Club, and all wound up going home empty-handed.

No section title - undefeated San Marcos San Marcos (săn mär`kəs).

claimed that for a sixth time with a 17-over-par total of 375.

No runner-up trophy - that went to fourth-place regional qualifier qual·i·fi·er

Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  high school teams get to a state championship - section 3-4 finishers and Santa Margarita Santa Margarita ("Saint Margaret") may refer to:

Eighth-place Westlake (399), Hart (401), Flintridge Prep (405) and previously undefeated Calabasas (417) exited only with a healthy respect for the par-72, 6,575-yard course in Somis.

``It was really tough,'' said Flintridge Prep junior Andy Brisbois, whose 76 led the Rebels and was the sixth-best score of the day. Brisbois, one of the area's most-improved players this year, placed Saticoy on par with the toughest courses the Rebels have faced.

``It was a tossup between that and Industry Hills,'' he said.

That sums the situation nicely, since Industry Hills is one of the toughest golf tests in the state.

But some solved Saticoy, notably Hart sophomore Ryan Wyman, whose 1-under-par 71 shared medalist honors with Ron Won of University and Michael Chavez, the plus-2.6 handicapper hand·i·cap·per

Wyman, firing his seventh sub-par round of the year, called it a combination of good play and good listening.

``People told me to just keep it in the fairway and hit greens and I'd have a chance to score,'' said Wyman, who missed just one fairway, hit 16 greens and came away with three birdies.

More often, however, Saticoy bit back at the area contingent. Wyman had Hart's lone round in the 70s, while Westlake's J.T. Kohut (74), Jason Park (74) and Andy Sirivicha (78); and Calabasas' Justin Ohye (79), Brisbois (78) and Don Martin (78) were the only other locals to break 80.

However, all four squads - which combined to field just two seniors at Saticoy - appear to have a very real chance to return to the section team final.
