Staff Writer QUARTZ HILL - On just about any other high school softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies' team, Lindsey Kontra probably would never get a rest. But the Hart High of Newhall Indians have settled into a rotation of two girls, Kontra and Casey Pickard, who are both headed to Division I programs, and Tuesday it was Kontra's turn to dominate in a 4-0 victory over Quartz Hill in the second round of the Division II playoffs. ``It's not really a rotation,'' Hart coach Cathy Giordano said. ``My scouting scouting: see Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts. scouting Activities of various national and worldwide organizations for youth aimed at developing character, citizenship, and individual skills. The Indians (25-5) eliminated the Rebels (16-10) from the playoffs for the second consecutive year and advanced to face either Rio Mesa of Oxnard or California of Whittier in Thursday's quarterfinals. Kontra struck out 10, allowed just four singles and didn't let a runner past first base. ``It doesn't really matter to us who pitches,'' said Kontra, who will attend Oregon in the fall. ``We're all so close, it's not like, 'Oh, it's your day.' Everybody is always behind you 100 percent.'' Kontra dominated, but Quartz Hill pitcher Kellie Cox battled and didn't allow the Indians an extra base. She allowed five hits, struck out six and walked two. Two of the Indians' runs were unearned, and Cox gave up just one hit in a three-run fifth inning in·ning n. 1. a.
