SOUTHERN SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP: CANYON 24, MOORPARK 22 CANYON COUNTRY LATE FIELD GOAL GIVES COWBOYS NORTHERN DIVISION TITLE.

Chapman and Longshore had the best view in the house last season as teammate J.J. DiLiuigi stopped Hart of Newhall's Troy Yudin a yard short of the end zone with 19seconds remaining to preserve the Cowboys' victory in the Div. II final.

But Saturday night against Moorpark, Longshore found himself in the lead role, and his final act was enough to allow Chapman to bring the house down in Canyon's 24-22 victory in front of a crowd of 8,000 in the Northern Division championship game.

Trailing by a point with 1:15 remaining, Longshore orchestrated or·ches·trate

Chapman then delivered the winning 19-yard field goal with seven seconds left to lift the Cowboys cowboys, in American history.

``As far as high school football, how can you ask for better theater?'' said Welch, who led Canyon (11-2) to its fifth championship in six finals appearances. ``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

Unfortunately for Moorpark (11-3), the conclusion to its season was even more painful than last year's 27-7 setback setback

to St.Bonaventure of Ventura in the Div. IV final, after the Musketeers rallied from a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit.

Moorpark, which suffered a 33-14 loss Aug. 31 to the Cowboys, relied on a 1-yard scoring run from junior Adam Barry -- followed by a 2-point conversion pass from Jake JAKE Jointly Administered Knowledge Environment  Lins to Ryan Murry -- and a 13-yard touchdown pass from Barry to Nick Karam in a five-minute stretch to grab a 22-21 lead following Arturo Tamayo's extra point.

``We were aware of the time and we didn't want to leave them too much, but you've got to get it when you can,'' Moorpark coach Tim Lins said.

``To come out like we did (in the fourth quarter), I'm just so proud of these guys. The kids played their hearts out. They deserved to win.''

Longshore wasted little time moving Canyon, ranked No. 6 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports, inside Moorpark's red zone, completing a 36-yard pass to J.J. DiLuigi and a 37-yarder to Anthony Arriaga to set up a first-and-goal at the 7-yard line.

But three consecutive runs left Canyon a yard short of the end zone, giving Chapman -- who had attempted six field goals all season -- an opportunity to play the role of hero against No. 14 Moorpark.

``He's Adam Vinatieri Adam Matthew Vinatieri (born December 28, 1972 in Yankton, South Dakota) is an American football placekicker currently playing for the Indianapolis Colts. He is best known for his tenure with the New England Patriots from 1996 to 2005, during which he played in four Super Bowls, . He just goes out there and does his job,'' said Longshore, who passed for 302 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown to Stephen Wirthlin and a 30-yarder to DiLuigi.

``I knew Chap would get it done. He's money.''

DiLuigi (22 carries, 95 yards) went over the 2,000-yard mark and increased his season total to 38 touchdowns, giving him 81in two seasons.

But the 5-foot-9, 131-pound Chapman managed to upstage the two Div. I college prospects, bending his kick from the right hash mark inside the left goal post.

``It was a great snap and hold (by Chris Kingsbury), and then I kicked it and I knew it was going through,'' Chapman said. ``It was the greatest feeling in the world.''
