Unfortunately for the Vikings, they couldn't pull out enough games along the way.

victory over David Vayzner pulled third-seeded Campbell Hall to a 9-9 tie, but the host Normans had already clinched a berth in the championship match, prevailing 82-76 on games.

``When you're chasing, it's always tough,'' said Campbell Hall coach Steve Kuechel, whose team lost in the semifinals for the second year in a row. ``You work so hard to get to this point, so to have it come down to a couple of games is disappointing.

``But I'm proud of the guys. We accomplished a lot this season.''

Beverly Hills (18-5) will face top-seeded Brentwood (20-3) -- a 16-2 winner Tuesday over Cerritos -- on May 31 at the Claremont Club.

Kuechel, who has made several trips to the Claremont Club with Campbell Hall's girls' team, even wore his 2003 championship ring for luck.

But after splitting the first 16 sets, the Vikings' (15-4) bid to reach the boys' finals for the first time since 1997 finally came to an end when Jeff Lin's 6-2 victory over Sam Sadeghi gave Beverly Hills a nine-game advantage with only the outcome of Braga's set remaining.

``It's hard, especially when you're out there playing those long points,'' said Fenmore, who, along with Greaves, helped tie the match at 8-8 with a 6-4 victory in their final set. ``But we gave it everything we had.''
