The Calabasas boys' soccer team stepped on the field Friday thinking it could compete with the best teams in the Southern Section.

Now the Coyotes know they can.

--Bell Gardens 5, Highland 0: A tough season for visiting Highland of Palmdale ended in tough fashion, as Bell Gardens scored all five of its goals in the second half.

The loss ends a campaign filled with unfulfilled expectations for Highland (11-9-4), which expected to contend for the Golden League title. A series of injuries plagued the Bulldogs from the get-go, and the team finished third in league.

``We were pumped up at the start and jumped ahead early. Then we scored again in the second half and started letting down a bit, and that's when they scored,'' Hart coach Robert Ciccone said. ``But we stepped it up again with another goal. Overall, I'm pretty happy with our performance.''

Kevin Ciccone also scored a goal, and goalkeeper Jose Esquivel had six saves for Hart.

--Westlake 1, Brea Olinda 0: Westlake, the Marmonte League's third-place representative, scored with five minutes remaining in the game and held off a late rally by the hosts to advance.

Justin Barmasse was credited with the assist for Westlake (16-7-2) when he sent a free kick toward forward Israel Higuera, who knocked in the game-winning goal with a header.

--Thousand Oaks 2, Leuzinger 1: Miguel Morales and Dylan Riley both scored goals as Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  took a 2-0 lead six minutes into the game and held off a late rally to win at home.

Goalkeeper Kenney Negron had five saves, and two key stops late in the second half, to preserve the lead for Thousand Oaks (23-3-3).

--Loyola 3, Foothill 0: Andreas Andrews had a goal and an assist for Loyola of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  (23-4-3) in its first-round victory at home.

 1: Mike Morris scored a goal in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and spark Oaks Christian of Westlake Village (13-3-4) to the victory at home.

Liam Leonard scored twice.

--Paraclete 2, St. Genevieve 0: Steve Roth and D.J. Vigil each scored for host and top-seeded Paraclete of Lancaster (18-5-4), which outshot the visitors 19-2.

Goalkeeper Kyle Burkhardt had his 17th shutout of the season for Paraclete.

His counterpart, Brian Parra, recorded 17 saves for St. Genevieve of Panorama City, which had its first postseason appearance in the program's 12-year history.

``Paraclete is an awesome team,'' said St. Genevieve coach Bernard Torres. ``They averaged six goals a game this season. We held them to only two, that's a great thing for us. It's our first time playing in the playoffs. We went in there with a game plan and executed.''

La Salle goalkeeper Gino Buccola was tackled in the 25th minute, knocking him out and causing a 30-minute game delay as the teams waited for an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

In his absence, freshman Andy Saldana played well against a relentless Village Christian offense, finishing with seven saves.
