SOUTHERN SECTION BASEBALL NOTEBOOK: CAMARILLO LOOKS TO LIGHT UP EDISON FIELD.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

Getting to play at a major-league stadium is as exciting to the Camarillo High baseball players as the opportunity to earn the program's first Southern Section title when the Scorpions face Lakewood in the Division I final Saturday at Edison Field.

``That'll be a great experience,'' Camarillo shortstop Brad Boyer said. ``Coach said we get to have the locker rooms and everything.''

First baseman Andrew Berkovich is especially pleased because the stadium is home to his favorite team.

--Homer monopoly: Home runs are a frequent occurrence in Camarillo games and the vast majority are hit by the Scorpions. Camarillo (29-4) has hit 47 home runs and allowed only seven in 33 games.

Junior Delmon Young Delmon Damarcus Young, (born September 14, 1985 in Montgomery, Alabama), the younger brother of Dmitri Young, is an outfielder on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and was, arguably, the top hitting prospect in baseball as of the end of the 2005 minor-league baseball season.  hit his 17th home run in Tuesday's 7-3 semifinal victory over Long Beach Poly to move into sole possession of the Ventura County single-season record.

--Record watch: Young's three hits Tuesday gave him 64 for the season to tie the Southern Section record, which has stood since the 1920s. He has 54 RBI RBI

``If he gets that one, he'll pretty much have them all,'' Camarillo coach Scott Cline cline, in biology, any gradual change in a particular characteristic of a population of organisms from one end of the geographical range of the population to the other.  said.

--Villa Park's victims: Third-seeded Canyon (24-5) will face unseeded Villa Park Villa Park, village (1990 pop. 22,253), Du Page co., NE Ill.; inc. 1914. It is a residential suburb W of Chicago.  in the Division II final Saturday.

Villa Park is the third-place representative from the Miramonte League. However, that hasn't meant anything in a series of postseason upsets. --No Moore trouble: Camarillo schedules Moore League opponents during the nonleague season because Moore teams are often responsible for ending Camarillo's seasons.

However, the Moore mystique mys·tique

might be fading. Camarillo defeated Moore member Long Beach Poly in the semifinals, ending a string of upsets by the Jackrabbits that included a victory over the No. 4 seed. And Camarillo swept Lakewood, the division's No. 2 seed and the Scorpions' opponent in the final, in an early-season doubleheader. If that's not encouraging enough, Young is 10 for 10 against Lakewood the past two seasons.
