SOUTHERN SECTION: POISED TO STRIKE CAMARILLO HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH OFFENSE.

CAMARILLO - Sarah Dorr has sympathy for opposing pitchers. After all, she knows better than anyone how imposing Camarillo High's offense can be.

``I pitch against them in practice all the time,'' the Camarillo senior said. ``And I always try to strike them out. You just have to hit your spots, because if you don't, they're going to crush it.''

And despite the graduation of Krystle Chamberlain, the region's all-time leading base-stealer (152) who batted .426 and scored 35 runs, that fearsome offense might be better this season.

In a game usually dominated by pitching, no lead is safe with Camarillo.

``Last year in the semifinals, (Foothill) scored 11 runs but I knew we could still come back,'' Dorr said.

And the Scorpions almost did, scoring six runs off Foothill, which had yielded only four runs in its previous three playoff games.

Last season, Camarillo batted .339 as a team. Seven players hit .316 or better, led by Oregon State-bound senior Cambria Miranda, who hit .511, scored 30 runs and drove in 37.

``We've got a lot of power hitters so it's pretty exciting this year,'' said Miranda, who was the Daily News Player of the Year last season. ``We love to hit.''

Junior De Ann Young, the younger sister of Delmon Young Delmon Damarcus Young, (born September 14, 1985 in Montgomery, Alabama), the younger brother of Dmitri Young, is an outfielder on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and was, arguably, the top hitting prospect in baseball as of the end of the 2005 minor-league baseball season.  - the No. 1 pick in the Major League Baseball draft The First-Year Player Draft is Major League Baseball's primary mechanism for assigning amateur baseball players, from high schools, colleges, and other amateur baseball clubs, to its teams.  in June - seems poised for a big year.

``She's hitting balls that are just scary right now,'' Willard said. ``Thank gosh she's only a junior.''

And then there's sophomore Katelyn Miller, who batted .345 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 58 at-bats after being called up from the junior varsity junior varsity

Byrne and Dorr were effective as Camarillo's top pitchers last season. But look for freshman Lindsey Dean and sophomore Kelly McGregor to see significant time in the circle as well.

The only team that comes close to matching Camarillo's offense is second-ranked Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , which returns All-Area infielder Devon Hofland (.419, 17 RBI) and adds dangerous freshman leadoff hitter In baseball, a leadoff hitter is a batter who bats first in the lineup.  Kristine Lesovsky. Senior Jordan McPherson (7-2, 0.14 ERA) is one of the area's top pitchers and will share time with Mercedes Lovato. Junior shortstop Andi Ramirez had a solid summer and was a second-team all-league pick last season.

Third-ranked Westlake returns every player from last year and adds Ashley Jones Ashley Jones (born September 3, 1976 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American television soap opera actress from Memphis, Tennessee She rose to fame on the long-running CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless , who will attend Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary.
