The Antelope Valley

 quarterfinal playoff victory over Arcadia.

The Antelopes (10-2) allowed 300 yards, most of which came in garbage time Garbage time, also known as "junk time", is a term used in American sports (most commonly, basketball and football) parlance to refer to the period of time at the end of a timed sporting event when the outcome of the game has already been decided, and the coaches of one or both , and more significantly, didn't allow their opponents to score until less than 30 seconds remained in the third quarter, by which time they led 30-0.

``Tonight we came out and showed our best,'' Antelope Valley defensive back Eric Wicklife said.

The Antelopes combined for six interceptions, two of which they returned for touchdowns.

had a 53-yard interception return for a touchdown that made it 43-14.

Davis and Johnson each had two interceptions.

``We take a lot of pride in our defense, defense wins championships,''said running back/outside linebacker Kreig Peters, who rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

And Antelope Valley is now a victory away from a championship. The Antelopes will play on the road Friday in the semifinals against Mira Costa of Manhattan Beach, which defeated St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe Springs, city (1990 pop. 15,520), Los Angeles co., SW Calif., inc. 1957. The city lies in an oil and natural gas region and has diversified manufacturing.  21-17 on Friday night.

The Antelopes will be making their first appearance in the semifinals since 1997.

They haven't been to the championship game since 1995, and last won a sectional title in 1994.

The bad news for Antelope Valley is that star quarterback Johnny Walker suffered a wrist injury that he'll have X-rayed over the weekend.

Walker rushed for 79 yards on 12 carries playing with groin and ankle injuries.

His replacement, Mike Casey played the last quarter and was 1-for-2 passing for 8 yards and rushed for 12 yards on four carries.

``He does everything for us,'' Antelope Valley coach Brent Newcomb said. ``He's also the punter and plays safety.

``We'll just have to adjust (if he can't play next week). That's the way football is this time of the year.''
