SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON ELECTS NEW VP OF HUMAN RESOURCES

 ROSEMEAD, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California Edison's board today elected Georgia R. Nelson vice president of human resources for the electric utility. The appointment is effective today.
 Nelson, 43, most recently served as special assistant to John Bryson, Edison's chairman and chief executive officer. She also has served as acting manager of the company's human resources department for the past four months.
 Nelson began her career with Edison in 1969 in the company's customer service department. In 1981, she was appointed to a management position in the company's steam generation department, which oversees operation of Edison's power plants.
 In 1983, she became the first woman in the nation to manage a power plant. From 1983 to 1987, she served as manager of two of the company's power plants -- the El Segundo Generating Station in El Segundo, Calif., and Alamitos Generating Station in Long Beach, Calif. In 1987, she was named manager of Edison's telecommunications department and, in 1989, manager of procurement and material management.
 She holds a bachelor's degree in business and management from Pepperdine University and will receive her master of business administration degree from the University of Southern California in May. She has done graduate work in law and also holds a lifetime teaching credential.
 She serves on the board of directors of the American Women's Economic Development Corp. and on the executive advisory committee of Women in Business. Her other professional affiliations include membership in the Organization of Women Executives and the International Association for Personnel Women, where she served as international president from 1983 to 1984. A winner of the Silver Achievement Award from the YWCA of Southern California, she also was an American Businesswomen's Day Honoree at the White House during the Reagan Administration.
 Nelson lives in Long Beach with her husband, David. They have three grown children.
