SOUTHERN BELL CALLS FOR FULL DISCLOSURE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL'S INVESTIGATION

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern Bell today formally requested that all investigative materials from the Attorney General's examination of Southern Bell be released. "We had, in fact, asked for much of this material months ago," said Southern Bell spokesperson Spero Canton, "but were refused."
Canton said Southern Bell welcomed a full look at this situation. The problems involved in this investigation have been reviewed and scrutinized countless times in the past and any concerns were corrected years ago. "The material contained in these documents is old news," he said.
Earlier in the day the Florida Attorney General's office released several thousand pages of selected documents involved in its investigation into some of Southern Bell's former sales and repair activities. "However only some documents were released," Canton said. "It is only fair that if they are releasing some investigative material, they should release all of it so the information can be viewed in its totality and not out of context."
The documents in question were used to reach a settlement between Southern Bell and the statewide prosecutor in October 1992. At that time, the statewide grand jury determined the settlement was "in the best interests of the people of this state." Canton said, "We have carefully carried out all the provisions of the agreement and have made all our customers financially whole."
