Good job, Beavers

I would like to congratulate Oregon State coach Mike Riley

For other people named Mike Riley, see Mike Riley (disambiguation).
Mike Riley (b. 1952 Wallace, Idaho) is the current head coach of the Oregon State University Beavers football program.
, the OSU (Open Source UNIX) Refers to the Unix variants that are maintained as open source, which were primarily BSD Unix and Linux until Sun made its Solaris operating system open source in 2005.  seniors and placekicker Alexis Serna Alexis Serna (born February 8, 1985 in Upland, California) is the starting placekicker and punter for the Oregon State University football team, the Oregon State Beavers. He won the 2005 Lou Groza Award which recognized him as the best placekicker in the nation.  for their 2004 Civil War victory. Nov. 20 was a very enjoyable afternoon for Beaver Nation.

Evidently an unlimited budget, private charter jets for recruiting, stadium expansion, state-of-the-art locker room, and indoor practice and training facilities do not guarantee national championships. The games are still settled on the field.

Go Beavers.

It is not enough, however, to merely express our dissatisfaction with the continuing erosion of Ducks football, because Bill Moos is obviously blinded by tunnel vision tunnel vision

when it comes to Bellotti and his staff. The only way for us, as Duck fans, to really make a difference is to hit the program where it hurts most ... right in the wallet. I guarantee you a slump in advance season ticket sales will most certainly get their attention.

That should not be too big a stretch, even for long-time ticket holders, because with next season's schedule and the returning players and coaches, they won't even match the 5-6 record of 2004. Do we really want to continue supporting a bunch of losers?

Where's the wisdom?

It amazes me how the bandwagon-riding Oregon fans continue to share their "wisdom" on how to fix Oregon football.

In the Dec. 5 Sound Off, these "experts" gave us all the answers.

To Richard Mason Richard Mason may refer to:
  • Richard Mason (1919-1997), the English author of ''The World of Suzie Wong
  • Richard Mason (1977-), English writer born in South Africa, the author of The Drowning People

: You are not an avid Duck fan. I've been a season ticket holder for 32 years, not six. I've been to all the bowl games, not a few. The fact you teach high school chemistry doesn't qualify you to instruct Mike Bellotti to fire Andy Ludwig or Nick Aliotti. Have you fired a lab assistant? Next fall, why not spend your Saturdays with some H2O or HCL HCl

hydrochloric acid.
. Don't waste your time on Oregon football ... it upsets you too much.

To George Dorsey: The Ducks have had 10 winning seasons and nine bowl games in the past 11 years. If you expect more than that, you expect too much.

To Marty Hamilton: Interesting that you know exactly what needs to be done with Oregon's football program. Bill Moos doesn't need your suggestions or help. He knows his business, you don't.

I'm not at all happy the Ducks went 5-6 and aren't headed to a bowl game. I'm still going to renew my season tickets and attend every game next year.

To coach Bellotti and his entire staff: Keep up the good work. Don't let the temporary fans get you down. Real fans support your staff and program.

Not just steroids

I sometimes wonder if the benefits of steroids aren't exaggerated. Steroids can build you up, but so can time in the weight room, proper diet, general body conditioning, etc.

If I bulked myself up to the size of Barry Bonds without the use of steroids, I would still have to hit a major-league fastball and I would still have to hit a major-league curveball.
