Showdown remembered

I have been the announcer at South Eugene basketball games for the past 25 years. One of my most memorable nights behind the mike occurred over the winter break in the 1999-2000 season, when South hosted Creswell in a rare contest between 4A and 3A powers.

The gym was packed. Maybe fans were curious about how Creswell would do against a school triple its size, but most were there to see the individual matchup between two friends who, by season's end Season's End are a British band based in Hampshire. They describe themselves as playing Progressive symphonic metal[1], although they are often tagged as a gothic metal band by reviewers and reference sources[2][3]. , would be the state players of the year in their divisions.

Together, they combined for 70 points - neither one really getting the best of the other. They were having so much fun, I've always wondered if, when they turned off the lights, those two didn't just take it up the street to University Park and keep playing one-on-one until the wee hours.

This week, Luke and Blake are All-Americans. Of the 10 best college players in the nation, two are local kids, and they were on the same floor that holiday night, radiating ra·di·ate

In their quiet confidence, humility and commitment to excellence, they represent the best in athletics and reflect well on their communities, parents and schools. Blake and Luke, you make us proud.

Looking back

With Luke Jackson's incredible effort against Colorado, the victorious celebration of the 1,000th University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. It was back in 1952 during the state tournament's glory days here. After watching our beloved Marshfield Pirates beat University High for fourth, we remained to watch two great teams from Portland, Central Catholic and Lincoln, battle for the state championship.

The favored Rams, led by the fabled hook shot-shooting Altenhofen brothers, were considered the smoothest team ever to play in the tournament, while the Cardinals could answer with only one big weapon, 7-foot Wade "Swede swede: see turnip. " Halbrook.

To the shock of local sportswriters, Halbrook totally took over the game, swatting down those lovely hook shots and scoring at will over the shorter Central Catholic defenders.

The result: Halbrook scored 51 points in Lincoln's surprisingly easy 66-44 victory, with 24 of their 27 field goals. Besides hitting 24-of-36 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line foul line

Joey a class act

I took my son, Micah, to his first Duck game Overview
The duck game is a series of questions and answers that are repeated. The entertaining aspect of the game is both that the questions and answers can be funny in various different ways and that the people playing the game might begin to forget their lines.
last night (Tuesday) at Mac Court. Before the game, I pointed out Joey Harrington John Joseph "Joey" Harrington Jr (born October 21, 1978 in Portland, Oregon) is an American football quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. He was originally signed to be a backup to Michael Vick following the trade of Matt Schaub, however, he entered the season as starting  to him, sitting down on the court.

Micah wanted to meet him, so I told him we'd go down at halftime. But security was tight, so we weren't able to get in to see Joey. Micah was so disappointed. He was decked out in Duck gear and his No. 3 jersey, which he wanted Joey to sign for him.

Toward the end of the game, I took him down to stand by the door where Joey exits. When the game ended, here came Joey, rushing out to avoid the crowd.

Micah was calling to him, Sharpie in hand, asking him to sign his jersey. Joey looked down at this little 4-year-old Duck fan, and said, "OK, come on!" We followed him toward the door, but he couldn't stop to sign the jersey, so he grabbed Micah's hat instead.

We followed him outside and down the sidewalk as he was escaping. He quickly signed the bill of Micah's hat, turned around and tossed it to us, then left.

What I wasn't able to tell Joey in the rush is that Micah is one of his biggest fans. He wants to play football when he grows up, just like Joey. So meeting him, and having Joey take the time to sign a quick autograph, meant so much to him.

Joey is a great guy with a big heart and such a wonderful role model for kids. I'd like to tell him a big thank you for taking the time to do that for my son.

The Pit could not possibly mean more to you than it has to me over the 64 years of my life. But it is time to turn that page.

I have been from the basement to the rafters, and it is not a building that could be remodeled. Scale down the proposed new arena if they must, but let us put our quality men's program in a facility that matches their abilities.

If Bill Moos leaves, so be it. But at least give him the credit he deserves. He is being honest with us about Mac Court.
