MARIAH CAREY: ``Charmbracelet'' (Monarc/Island) - One star

Saxophone titan Lloyd had been scheduled to open at New York's Blue Note jazz club on 9-11. In the ensuing months, he found solace in spirituals and eventually put together this two-disc album, which stands as a beautiful reflection on both healing and joy. The music is equally divided between Eastern and Western sounds, taking in everything from Marvin Gaye's soulful ``What's Going On'' to fresh takes on spirituals like ``Amazing Grace'' and ``Go Down Moses'' to the mournful mourn·ful

JENNIFER LOPEZ: ``This Is Me ... Then'' (Epic) - One star

'Tis the season for the CD industry's weapons of mass consumption - Mariah, Shania, Shakira, Christina and, er, J.Lo. And this time around, J.Lo has B.Lo on her mind. On her predictably antiseptic new record, the celebrity crows about fiance Ben Affleck in the treacly ``Dear Ben'': ``My lust, my love, my man, my child, my friend and my king.'' Hey, J.Lo, tell us how you really feel. And whatever you do, don't rent ``Reindeer Games.'' Musically, tracks like ``Jenny From the Block'' and ``You Belong to Me'' are built on the familiar technoclub sound with a few attempts at '80s r&b in the impotent ballads ``The One'' and ``Still.'' Like other fast-food products, ``This Is Me ... Then'' is designed to be purchased, consumed and discarded.

To celebrate, they dug behind all the Jack Daniel's empties at their Chicago warehouse to find the rare singles, B-sides and alternative tracks that make up this ultra-special anniversary collection (in stores Tuesday). Great covers of everything from Loretta Lynn to a trilogy of Madonna songs done speed-cowpunk style from the likes of Neko Case, the Meat Purveyors and the Waco Brothers, as well as too-clever-for-radio originals by Jon Langford, Andre Williams and an acoustic version of Ryan Adams' Dylan-esque ``To Be Young.'' Plus, naturally, an excess of more.

VARIOUS ARTISTS ``Music From the Motion Picture: The Wild Thornberrys Movie''(Jive) - Three stars

Paul Simon's endearing ``Father and Daughter,'' with its unraveling guitar and hiccuping woo-hoo, should be reason enough to love this movie soundtrack. But really, that's just the tip of the iceberg tip of the iceberg
