SORSABAL, CARNEY LEAD OPPONENTS IN FUND RAISING.

City Council candidate Shelley Sorsabal raised more money than any of the council candidates, while high school board member Kevin Carney is leading in fund raising in the mayoral race.

Sorsabal, a mortgage loan officer, has raised $10,818.98 and has spent $3,383.55 on her campaign thus far. In the mayoral race, Carney has raised $3,864 and has spent $3,215.

The figures were included in the first report of campaign fund raising for the Nov. 4 election for mayor and two City Council seats. The campaign reports cover the period between July 1 and Sept. 20.

Sorsabal's major contributors included Lou Bozigian, owner of a realty office and a former Lancaster mayor; and Johnny Zamrzla, a Palmdale contractor. Each contributed $500. Sorsabal also received $495 from Boyle Engineering, a Newport Beach Newport Beach, residential and resort city (1990 pop. 66,643), Orange co., S Calif., on Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1906. It is a popular seaside resort and yachting center. Manufactures include electrical and medical equipment, computers, boats, and adhesives.  firm.

She reported 17 other contributions from individuals and businesses ranging from $100 to $300, and seven donations of goods or services.

Major contributors to Carney's campaign include John and Lillian Lejeune, $500; Richard McLemore, $250; and Thomas and Dolores Dolores (or Delores) was a common given name (until the 1960s in the USA); it is cognate with the English word "dolorous" (meaning sorrowful) and equivalent in meaning.  Rogers, $200.

Jim Ledford, who is seeking his fourth term as mayor, lists a $580 loan to himself as his only fund raising to date. Ledford has spent $550 on his campaign.

Corrales' major contributor was Sam Nowyed, owner of an office building, who gave $500.

Incumbent Terry Judge, a sheriff's lieutenant, reported raising $1,000 and having spent $380. Judge's contributions came from Rancho ran·cho
