SORRY, STEINBRENNER, NOT THIS SEASON.

Byline: JOE HAAKENSON

Many baseball fans are tired of seeing the Yankees in the World Series, then winning the World Series, then watching George Steinbrenner George Michael Steinbrenner III (born July 4, 1930 in Rocky River, Ohio), often known as "The Boss", is an American billionaire businessman and the principal owner of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees.  gloat.

It's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a  for a change at the top, and this year it will happen.

World Series prediction: The Indians and Giants will meet in the 2000 World Series. The Indians will win in six.

But before we get into that, let's flash first to the playoffs, who will be there and what will happen.

If the standings remain as they are, the first round of the playoffs would look like this:

A.L.

Indians vs. Yankees

Going into Saturday's game, the Yankees had beaten the Indians in four of six games this season and you know what that means - nothing. Roger Clemens William Roger Clemens (born August 4, 1962, in Dayton, Ohio), is a starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, and is one of the preeminent pitchers in Major League history. In 2006, a poll of 32 ESPN analysts named Clemens the greatest living pitcher.  is hot, but one hot pitcher won't have as much of an effect on a five-game series as a seven-game series.

Andy Pettitte Andrew Eugene Pettitte (born June 15, 1972 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is an American left-handed starting pitcher for the New York Yankees.

In his major league career, he played for the New York Yankees from 1995-2003.
is having a good season and could be the key to the series, but the Indians normally hit him well: Pettitte is 4-5 with a 5.07 ERA against the Indians in his career.

Besides, I just can't imagine a team starting Luis Polonia Luis Andrew Polonia Almonte (born October 12, 1963, in Santiago, Dominican Republic) was a Major League Baseball outfielder and designated hitter.

Signed by the Oakland Athletics as an amateur free agent in 1984, Polonia would make his Major League Baseball debut with the
in left field going to the World Series.

White Sox vs. Mariners

These two teams have cooled considerably since the first half of the season. The Mariners have a notable edge in experience, which should make a big difference here.

Deep down, the young White Sox will feel a sense of accomplishment having beaten the Indians in the AL Central race and won't be as hungry as the Mariners. And Chicago's pitching staff has struggled in the second half, during which it's posted a 5.01 ERA.

Indians vs. Mariners

The reason the Indians - and not the Mariners - will get to the World Series is simple. The Indians have played with purpose during the second half of the year - they are 34-23 since the All-Star break.

The Mariners are below .500 (30-31) since the break and if they win the AL West, it will have happened only because the A's and Angels also struggled in the second half.

N.L.

Mets vs. Giants

These teams created a little rivalry during the season and both have played well in the second half.

But when it comes to a battle of wits Noun 1. battle of wits - a contest in which intelligence rather than violence is used

between Giants manager Dusty Baker and Mets manager Bobby Valentine, two ex-Dodgers, I'll take Baker in a heartbeat immediately.

Braves vs. Cardinals

The Braves are the ultimate regular-season team, and the ultimate disappointment of the postseason. Having a healthy Mark McGwire in the lineup would be huge for the Cardinals, but they have enough (Jim Edmonds, Will Clark, J.D. Drew) without him, as well as a solid pitching staff and a better manager in Tony La Russa to top the Braves.

Can't imagine what Bobby Cox's excuse will be this season.

Giants vs. Cardinals

Once again, we look for the team entering the playoffs on a roll to ride that wave to the Series. And no team is hotter than the Giants. Through Friday, they were 41-20 since the All-Star break.

The Giants also have two solid left-handed starters in Shawn Estes and Kirk Rueter, who could both be key in keeping Edmonds and Clark from going off.

WORLD SERIES

Giants vs. Indians

Two hot teams. Two well-balanced teams. But the Indians' lineup will be too much for the Giants' pitchers. From Kenny Lofton and Omar Vizquel leading things off, to Roberto Alomar, Manny Manny may refer to:

In nobility:
  • Baron Manny, a title in the Peerage of England
  • Walter de Manny, 1st Baron Manny (died 1372), soldier of fortune and founder of the Charterhouse
People with the given name Manny:
  • Manny (given name)
Ramirez, Jim Thome, Travis Fryman and David Segui, the Indians' lineup is deep and dangerous.

Cleveland's starters are experienced and solid. Chuck Finley and Dave Burba are smart enough to know they won't have to pitch a shutout to win. Bartolo Colon, however, is capable of that shutout.

Indians in six. Take that, George.
