Harvard-Westlake served out the final four points and won the match when Santa Paula's Turce Tolley hit into the net. ``Courtney is so quick and Karalyn is so powerful, and those girls can just carry us,'' said Harvard-Westlake coach Jess Quiroz. ``We didn't play very well in that second game and we had some inconsistent hitting, but we were able to overcome that.'' After a blistering victory in the first game, the Wolverines came out flat in the second game. Numerous hitting errors from Harvard-Westlake allowed Santa Paula to score eight of the first 10 points, but the Wolverines stormed back after that. Nesser's strong hitting and Schultz's blocking led the Wolverines' rally, and consecutive blocks from Schultz gave Harvard-Westlake a 11-10 lead. Schultz led the Wolverines with 11 kills and had four blocks in the third game. Kelly Ayers added seven kills and teamed with Schultz for strong play in the middle. ``Courtney was our most consistent player all the way through and Kelly came up with some big hits, too,'' Quiroz said. ``For Courtney and Karalyn being sophomores and playing as well as they are, that's pretty amazing a·maze v. a·mazed, a·maz·ing, a·maz·es v.tr. 1. Harvard-Westlake earned a rematch against Corona del Mar, a team it beat earlier this season in the Orange County Tournament. ``We beat them in two games, and we didn't have Courtney or Karalyn,'' Quiroz said, referring to the two sophomores who were injured early in the season. ``Hopefully they will give us a bigger lift.'' |
