SONY FOR THE KIDS PROGRAM GIVES THE GIFT OF ENTERTAINMENT TO THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF PHILADELPHIA; Sony Products Donated to Help Children Cope with Prolonged Hospital Stays.

The donation was made by Sony Electronics' Medical Systems through their For the Kids(TM) program to enhance the quality of in- and out-patient care for the hospitalized children.

"Serving our community is a priority at Sony," said Jim Sandy, vice president, medical systems, Sony Electronics' Business and Professional Products Group. "Working closely with hospitals, we have become particularly aware of the young patients and children who must spend prolonged periods of time in the hospital. We hope these gifts will help make the healing process a little happier and a little easier."

These children must also cope with separation from family and friends while in a new and foreign environment. Through the For the Kids program, the staff at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia chose one 13" TV/VCR combination unit, one 20" TV/VCR combination unit, one VHS recorder/player, 16 My First Sony tape players, 19 My First Sony Walkman stereos, and 11 My First Sony electronic sketch pads.

Tape players will be mounted on treatment carts so children can pick music or relaxation tapes to listen to during long and often painful procedures. Other children are using the My First Sony products to play their favorite tapes, record messages to friends and create electronic paintings and pictures.

As a renowned center for pediatric research Pediatric Research is one of the most respected peer-reviewed medical journals within the field of pediatrics in the world.

 and treatment, Children's Hospital provides both in-patient and out-patient comprehensive care to children from birth through age 19. Sony's donation is going to the Child Life Department which provides age-appropriate play and other activities which encourage mastery, coping, and expression of feelings in patients. The program is designed to increase familiarity with surroundings and to prepare children to cope with medical experiences.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was recommended to Sony as a recipient of this donation by Jim Cadmus, president of Cadmet, Inc. Cadmet, a leading northeastern medical equipment supplier, has been a powerful proponent for reducing hospital waste and increasing cost efficiency through a number of channels including the adoption of Sony's new print media bulk packaging (10UPC-5010S). The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has likewise taken steps to reduce waste and increase cost efficiency through the adoption of Sony's bulk packaging print media.
