SONY APPOINTS MATT ROTHMAN DIRECTOR, NEW TECHNOLOGIES, NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/RESEARCH

 NEW YORK, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Corporation of America announced today that Matt Rothman has been appointed director, New Technologies, New Business Development/Research. Mr. Rothman will report to Mitchell Cannold, Vice President, New Technologies, Sony Corporation of America.
 Mr. Rothman will analyze business opportunities in emerging technologies, coordinate corporate research responsibilities on new technologies matters, and work closely with third party alliances.
 Mr. Rothman earned a B.A. in Economics from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass. From 1981 to 1984, he worked as a reporter for the Center for Investigative Reporting and from 1985 to 1988 he was a correspondent for Business Week Magazine. From 1988-89, Mr. Rothman was a staff writer at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and from 1989-1992 he served as editor for California Business Magazine.
 Mr. Rothman joined Sony Corporation from Daily Variety where he served as the publication's finance/technology writer covering financial trends in the entertainment industry, as well as the multimedia and telecommunications businesses.
 Sony, which had 1993 U.S. sales of $10.5 billion, has more than 20,000 U.S. employees, and its U.S.-based companies employ an additional 10,000 people worldwide.
