Recently, American Express introduced the Card Acceptance Processing Network (CAPN), an upgrade to its global infrastructure that enhances point-of-sale security, supports expanded transaction amounts and incorporates a transaction lifecycle identifier. Compliance with the first two phases of the high-speed processing system became mandatory for all U.S. credit card processors on August 31, 2007. For SonicWALL and Custom Business Solutions (CBS), a SonicWALL Gold Partner, the new American Express credit card processing requirements bring needed attention to the importance of secure broadband for merchants in the competitive retail industry.

With the addition of high-speed processing, merchants are required by the new security standards released by the PCI Security Standards Council to add safeguards to their networks to ensure that transactions can be processed securely. Movie Tavern, the leading operator of cinema-eateries in the country, worked with CBS, SonicWALL and its credit card processing company to comply with both PCI and CAPN. Movie Tavern is using SonicWALL devices at all 11 of the company's sites while CBS provides ongoing support for the company's POS system and equipment.

As a result of complying with the CAPN requirements, organizations will no longer need a dial-up modem, transactions will be processed significantly faster and they will have improved reliability. In addition, merchants will be able to authorize and submit transactions greater than $99,999 while the enhanced authorization data will help to reduce fraud.
