SONIC REPORTS UNFAVORABLE JURY VERDICT

OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Sonic Corp., (NASDAQ-NMS: SONC) the Oklahoma City-based parent corporation of the operator and franchisor of Sonic drive-in restaurants, announced today that a Texas state court jury found it liable in a real estate and restaurant operations dispute with L&G Restaurants Inc. and certain other plaintiffs.
The jury found certain of Sonic's subsidiaries liable for the violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, interference with contractual relations, and intentional infliction of emotional distress in a matter primarily involving a real estate transaction. Although the verdict is very complex and difficult to interpret, the jury's answers to the damage questions in the court's charge indicate a total award which could be as high as $3.3 million. The amount of the court's judgment on the verdict will not be known until post-verdict proceedings are completed in 30 to 60 days. The company believes that the judgment could be substantially less than the amount indicated by the jury's answers.
According to Michael Folks, Sonic's general counsel, Sonic was very surprised and disappointed by the jury's decision and intends to pursue its post-verdict remedies vigorously and to appeal any adverse judgment that the court might enter against it.
