VALENCIA - The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Master Chorale chorale (kōrăl`, –räl`), any of the traditional hymns of the German Protestant Church. The form was developed after the Reformation to replace the plainsong of the earlier service and as a means of congregational participation in  will present an eclectic program with music for every taste as it wraps up its fifth season with `'Black Tie Optional'' on Friday and Saturday.

Film and Broadway favorites, light classics and opera, sacred music, folk songs, jazz, and spirituals highlight the spring concert scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Valencia United Methodist Church United Methodist Church, in the United States, religious body formed by the union in 1968 of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church (see Methodism). , 25718 McBean Parkway, Valencia.

Audiences will likely find themselves alternately filled with silent emotion or happily tapping their feet during the musical magic created by the chorale. Selections range from Handel to ``Les Miserables,'' from Debussy to Lennon/McCartney, and from emotional spirituals to lilting melodies composed by Allan Robert Petker, the chorale's own artistic director.

``We had some real winners in 'Zadok the Priest,' 'Cindy' and the 'Les Miz' medley,'' Hackett said. ``These are a few selections we will present that are highlights from past concerts. Plus, we're pretty certain concert-goers will love the new selections we will perform for the first time.''

The new selections include three works composed by David C. Dickau, director of ``Magnum Chorum,'' (the esteemed St. Olaf Alumni Choir) and two additional compositions by Director Petker.

``The new repertoire will feature John Rutter's arrangements of seven spirituals accompanied by a small ensemble of instruments,'' Petker said.
