The nice-gal talk-show hostess tells this column, ``I would love to be a part of an American musical, especially the quality of `Chicago.' ... It's a wonderful part, and I'd be thrilled to do it if we can work it out, time-wise.'' She adds, ``There are a lot of people's names being bandied about, not just mine - like Bette Midler Bette Midler (born December 1 1945) is an American singer, actress and comedienne, also known to her fans as The Divine Miss M. Chip off the old rat? Larry Bishop - the actor-director son of Joey - was sent the script to HBO's ``The Rat Pack'' last week to see whether he'd play his father in the '60s saga. Larry's had his own rat-pack saga on the back burner for awhile - one that only he can do. Called ``The Rat Pack and Me,'' it's Larry's own coming-of-age story: ``A 13-year-old kid loses his innocence when he goes to watch the rat pack for a weekend. It has to do with the manifestations of power and celebrity and so forth - and how a boy is impressed by them. I definitely had a worldly point of view after that,'' Bishop says. Right. Meanwhile, Bishop has his own project, ``Bad Men,'' at the production company owned by Richard Dreyfuss and Judith James. If all goes as he hopes, he'll soon be directing the feature he wrote ``about 25 hit men who take a year off to search for the meaning of existence.'' It's a comedy, folks. Take 2 There's new life for ``The Jungle of Jules Levine'' - an adventure flick set in the jungle of Panama, starring Elliott Gould and including an appearance by the late Peter Cook. The movie was in production in Panama in 1989 when it was abandoned because of lots and lots of political problems - chiefly, the U.S. invasion of Panama. Now, producing partners Jeff Craig and Michael Mileham have the existing ``Jungle'' footage and are incorporating it into a new film. This has to be some kind of a first. Meanwhile, Craig and Mileham have another project in the chute ahead of ``Jungle,'' a caper caper, common name for members of the Capparidaceae, a family of tropical plants found chiefly in the Old World and closely related to the family Cruciferae (mustard family). mystery called ``Hook, Line & Sinker Sinker A bond whose payments are provided by the issuer's sinking fund. They have the Rolling Stones to thank for guitar wizard Widgeon Holland's involvement in their feature. The filmmakers were visiting backstage at a Stones concert this month in San Diego when they ran into longtime Stones friend and industry legend manager Chesely Millikin - and Millikin's protege, Holland. Mileham immediately decided Holland was ideal for a pivotal role in ``Hook, Line & Sinker,'' and Holland's new ballad, ``Jamie's Town,'' will be a centerpiece in the film. It pays to know the right people. Where the action is Jean-Claude Van Damme's next picture is being described as an ``action `Fargo,''' but the setting - at least - couldn't be much more different from that of the 1996 Coen brothers' crime thriller. Called ``Inferno,'' it takes place in a desert town, where Jean-Claude will have to take on multiple desperadoes. The picture starts in early April in California's Mojave Desert. Maybe not. Touted as an ``action-comedy,'' the film got panned and didn't do very well at the box office. Still, it's being spun off into a television series with Lorenzo Lamas as star. Apparently, Lamas believes in life after death. With reports by Stephanie DuBois.
