Moms who give birth on Mother's Day this year - or who adopt a youngster on May 10, the day after - can receive a special gift from the Eastman Kodak Co.

All new moms who meet those criteria - and prove it by sending a copy of a birth or adoption certificate - will receive a free Advanced Photo System (APS) Advantix T550 camera valued at $150, plus a roll of film with free processing and a coupon for a free picture CD.

To get the free camera, which Kodak advertises as small enough to slip easily into a knapsack or diaper bag for anytime shooting, write to: Kodak Advantix Picture Perfect Mother's Day, P.O. Box 5431, Young America, Minn. 55558-5431. Requests must be received by Aug. 31 to qualify. Copies of birth and adoption certificates will not be returned.

The new camera has several features that may help harried parents get the best shots of their new offspring: a Sensalite flip-up flash to help reduce red-eye; a self-timer; programmed titles (including ``birthday'' and ``vacation''); and a system that records the date and time each snapshot was taken, which is printed on the back of each photo.
