SOLUTION REDUCES COST OF CREATING DATABASES.

ESRI, Redlands, Calif., a leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, has launched PLTS for ArcGIS 9 Defense Solution. Defense Solution provides tools to reduce cost and improve the efficiency of creating and maintaining high-quality topographic databases for publishing professional map products and data analysis. PLTS for ArcGIS leverages the object-relational ArcGIS technology to streamline production in a consistent process, enabling users to do more with fewer resources.

Defense Solution allows for rapid creation and updating of many products including Foundation Feature Data (FFD), Vector Map Level 1 (VMap 1), 1:250,000 scale Joint Operation Graphic- Air (JOG-A), Vector Map Level 2 (VMap 2), and 1:50,000/1:100,000 Topographic Line Map (TLM) products. Other defense data models and products are also available with Defense Solution and can be customized to meet user requirements. "With Defense Solution, our users can achieve significant time savings wh en performing large-scale database production and maintenance projects that meet military specifications," said Daryl Smith, PLTS for ArcGIS product manager, ESRI.

Defense Solution includes tools that enable users to Extract and attribute features more efficiently. View the size of a feature that has been created or selected. Populate the area, length, and ZV2 fields for a geodatabase. Update angle values. Add bridges to road features. Create simple building features. Check the relationships between different feature classes and geometry types.

Defense Solution comes with PLTS for ArcGIS Foundation, a set of components for quality control (QC), database editing, cartographic product generation, and work flow management. Defense Solution requires ArcInfo and operates on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
