Bill T. Jones has long been one of the most distinctive voices in the dance world, audiences have become used to seeing Jones perform with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. This season Jones is also going solo. His fourteen-city American and European tour, called The Breathing Show, began October 23 at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City Iowa City, city (1990 pop. 59,738), seat of Johnson co., E Iowa, on both sides of the Iowa River; founded 1839 as the capital of Iowa Territory, inc. 1853. The Breathing Show, divided into three sections, uses a wide range of music, from Bernice Johnson Reagon Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon (born October 4, 1942) is a singer, composer, scholar, and social activist, who founded the a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock in 1973.  of Sweet Honey in the Rock Sweet Honey in the Rock is an all-woman, African-American a cappella ensemble that has been producing music for more than 30 years.

Although the members of the group have changed over time, their music has consistently combined contemporary rhythms and narratives with a

The solo evening also includes a projection of Ghostcatching: A Virtual Dance Installation, as well as a short film by Abraham Ravett called Bill's Garden.

The link between dancing and gardening is a recurring theme in The Breathing Show. But Jones said it was only as he developed his solo show that he saw the link between his work as a dancer-choreographer and his half-acre garden at his home in Rockland County, New York Rockland County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York, 12 miles north-northwest of New York City. . "The garden to me is ... a place of contemplation," he says. "For an artist who has been trying to find relevance in their art more, and looking all sort of places and dealing with many, many different types of people, the garden is a quiet place that you literally create.

"My dancing has taken up so much of my gardening energy over the years," he adds. "Now, as I'm able to, at this moment take a breath--which is what The Breathing Show means, take a breath from my life as director of a company--I can give more time to both."

Not that Jones plans to slow down this season. He still plans to travel with and creme works for his company, including a new evening-length work, Oh? You Walk?, premiering in March. "It will be a very challenging winter and spring for me," he says.
