Byline: Karen Maeshiro Staff Writer

LITTLEROCK - Henry Hearns Charter School of Academic Excellence will soon be harnessing the power of the sun.

The elementary school elementary school: see school.  is installing a 30,000-watt solar-energy system that will meet a significant portion of the school's current energy use.

The $240,000 project was paid for in part by a $197,000 grant from the California Energy Commission The California Energy Commission is California’s primary energy policy and planning agency. Created in 1974 and headquartered in Sacramento, the Commission has responsibility for activities that include forecasting future energy needs, promoting energy efficiency through . The remainder was paid by a family in the community, said Robert Blackburn Robert Blackburn may refer to:

``Golden State is developing a curriculum in which students will learn about alternative energy sources,'' Blackburn said.

The sun is by far the most massive part of the solar system, containing almost 99.9% of the system's total mass.  will resemble a huge carport CARPORT Cardiology A clinical trial–Coronary Artery Restenosis Prevention on Repeated Thromboxane-Antagonism Study that evaluated thromboxane A2-receptor blockade in preventing restenosis after PCTA in Pts with CAD.  20 feet tall, 40 feet across and 100 feet long. The solar panels will be placed atop steel columns and I-beams and tilt south. The device is expected to be completed at the end of February.

An added benefit is the system can double as a shade structure, said Sean Capra, a Golden State Power salesman.

``The kids can sit under it,'' Capra said.
