SOFTLAB GmbH JOINS IBM'S INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR AD/CYCLE

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM Programming Systems today named Softlab Gmbh a member of the International Alliance for AD/Cycle(A) in a partnership designed to help customers develop software applications in large PC workgroups, in heterogeneous computing environments and provide them with European software development methodologies.
As part of the agreement, IBM U.S. and Softlab, Inc., Softlab GmbH's Atlanta-based U.S. company, announced they intend to market Softlab's Maestro II(B) products. Maestro II allows large groups of developers to build business applications in a client/server environment using multiple workstation operating systems.
AD/Cycle, IBM's framework to speed and simplify application development, will benefit from the inclusion of Softlab's high function set of tools that span the application development environment and support several development methodologies that are predominant in Europe.
Also as part of the agreement, Softlab has agreed to enable its tools to use the AD/Cycle LAN-based workgroup development environment. This will provide for integration of Softlab tools with enabled tools from IBM, other alliance partners and other industry vendors.
"This agreement will help our customers gain experience developing applications in large, multi-platform, client/server workgroups," said Earl F. Wheeler, IBM senior vice president and general manager, Programming Systems. "It also helps us meet customers' needs for tools meeting the unique requirements of European methodologies."
"Softlab's offerings provide IBM customers with AD/Cycle products that support multiple teams of developers in a LAN-workgroup for both IBM and non-IBM environments right now," said Klaus Neugebauer, chairman of Softlab GmbH.
Softlab GmbH, founded in 1971 and based in Munich, Germany, is wholly owned by BMW. Softlab GmbH has a customer base which includes more than 25,000 workstations in more than 300 of the world's largest corporations and public institutions.
"As a long-term user of Softlab's Maestro products, Norwich Union is delighted that Softlab has joined the AD/Cycle community," said Roger Stenson, assistant general manager, Management Services, Norwich Union Insurance Group, U.K.
IBM's Programming Systems business unit provides a range of application-enabling software offerings for application development, enterprise data and systems management, office systems and electronic publishing and documentation for host, midrange and workstation computer systems.
Softlab, Inc. joins software developers Digitalk Inc., Easel Corporation, KnowledgeWare, Inc., Micro Focus, Sapiens International Corp. N.V., SYNON Corporation and VIASOFT, Inc. as members of the International Alliance for AD/Cycle.
