``It would mean a lot to me,'' Lira said about going undefeated. ``I will be leaving the field with an honor.''

Lira broke open a scoreless game with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the third. She lined a full-count single through the left side of the infield to score Stephanie Boshae.

Angelina Gonzalez followed with a single to make it 2-0. Lira, who also scored an insurance run in the seventh, had two of Sylmar's three hits.

``She makes my pitches look better than they are,'' said Boshae, who won her 17th game. ``And she always comes through in a clutch. Those are the hits she makes every time.''

Lira's finest play, however, might have come in the fifth. Banning became just the second team all season to try to steal against her, and Lira threw out the runner at second.
