SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: HART MAKES QUICK WORK OF DONS.

Hart spoiled Santa Barbara's first postseason appearance in eight years by defeating the Dons 6-2 in the first round of the Southern Section Division II playoffs.

The Dons surprised the favored Indians by taking an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second when sophomore Stephanie Gutirrez doubled in Brooke Harper and Misha Weighill.

Hart tied the game in the bottom of the second when Casey Pickard hit a two-run home run. The Indians took the lead for good in the third inning when three Dons errors and a two-run double by Sara Dean made it 5-2. Dean was 2 for 3 and scored two runs.

Hart's pitchers dominated most of the game. Starter Amanda Fortune pitched three innings with six strikeouts and allowed the Dons only two runs. Lindsey Kontra finished the game with five strikeouts, allowing no runs on only one hit over the final four innings.

In other first-round games:

Division I

Quartz Hill 1, Glendora 1: The Rebels got 28 strikeouts and a home run by Jodie Cox, but they still couldn't beat Glendora.

Yet.

The game was halted after 17 innings and resumes on Monday at 3:15 p.m. at Quartz Hill.

Cox, who gave up 10 hits, fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but tied it with a solo home run in the third inning.
