SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: HART'S GOOD FORTUNE IS PERFECT AGAINST CALIFORNIA.Byline: Daily News Hart High junior Amanda Fortune emerged from a team bear-hug all smiles after the host Indians defeated California High of Whittier 1-0 in the second round of the Southern Section Division II softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies' playoffs. The pitcher who always expects so much from herself was flawless on Tuesday, as she struck out 11 in the first perfect game of her softball career at any level. ``They looked like all good hitters,'' Fortune said of the California lineup. ``But I went after each one just as hard. Even if you let down on the not-so-good ones, they can still bite you.'' There would be no bites for California on this day. And it might never have happened, had Hart coach Cathy Giordano not deviated from her normal game plan, which was to start Fortune and have Lyndsey Kontra replace her after the fourth inning. ``She was pitching so well, I said, `You know what, I'm going to go with it,' '' Giordano said. ``Then in the fifth inning, she didn't get up to run out there (on the field) and I said, `What are you doing?' '' Casey Pickard singled home Jocelyn Evans for Hart's only run in the fourth inning. -Scott Magoloff In other Southern Section softball playoff games Noun 1. playoff game - one game in the series of games constituting a playoff game - a single play of a sport or other contest; "the game lasted two hours" playoff - any final competition to determine a championship Tuesday: Saugus 3, La Serna La Serna may refer to: People
