Righetti on Saturday take its toll?

The Rebels (22-3-2) will discover how much they have left today against Riverside Jurupa Valley (25-4) in the Southern Section Division II semifinals at Lancaster City Park.

First pitch is at 3:15.

Quartz Hill again will rely on all-purpose star Jodie Cox, whose dramatic two-run triple was the difference against Righetti.

``There was at least two or three times that we could have folded,'' Ray said. ``But we held on. If we didn't, it would have been a long ride home. I can't really give this team any more advice except to just keep on playing a sound game and make the plays.''

Jurupa Valley, coached by Jimmy Rodriguez, has outscored three playoff opponents 12-1, including a 1-0 nod over Corona Corona, city, United States

Unlike Righetti's Jocelyn Forest, one of the fastest pitchers in California who struck out 24 in Saturday's losing effort, Stephens is a finesse fi·nesse

Rodriguez has a second pitching option in Erin Kelly, who is 7-0.

Jurupa Valley has shuffled its lineup through the season, and Rodriguez is hoping his team is peaking at the right time.

``We're much-improved from the beginning of the season,'' he said. ``In our first tournament, we came in fourth.''

Rodriguez scouted Quartz Hill's Saturday win.

``Quartz Hill plays good defense and they're pretty smart, which means they're well-coached,'' Rodriguez said. ``I know they haven't given up a run in the playoffs, so our first goal is to score on them.''

Quartz Hill's road to the semifinals started with an 8-0 win over Buena, followed with a 1-0 victory at Hart.
