One of the best days in Littlerock High softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  history very nearly turned into the worst when senior pitcher Nickie Perez was struck on the wrist by a line drive during Littlerock's 1-0 victory Thursday over Quartz Hill.

After X-rays and tests over the weekend, the reigning Golden League MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  learned she has a deep bone bruise, but no fracture, and isn't expected to miss any time.

Perez initially feared the wrist might be broken, but with no backup pitcher ready to step into a scoreless tie in the top of the ninth inning, Perez tearfully fought through the pain to finish the inning.

Littlerock won in the bottom of the ninth, Dani Robison driving in Jessica Wedell with the winning run, to grab a share of first place in the Golden League.

Perez went to the hospital after the game, and X-rays on her wrist were negative. Littlerock coach Sarah Adams was prepared for the worst.

``She's going to have it looked at again once the swelling goes down,'' Adams said after Thursday's game. ``Hopefully, we won't lose her for the season. ... It would be horrible to win such a big game and then lose Nickie.''

Perez also was worried.

``I broke my hand in 10th grade,'' she said. ``That was pretty bad. This was just scary and painful. I felt it pop a couple of times, and that's when I got scared. I figured the adrenaline was keeping it from hurting, but I was worried that after I stopped pitching, I'd realize it was worse than I thought.

``I didn't ice it in (the bottom of the ninth) because I wanted to be able to go back out there, but I was a little nervous I'd hurt it more if I did. So I was very relieved when we scored in the ninth.''

Perez said Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  that her wrist was still very sore but that she would be back on the mound in today's showdown against Lancaster.

Lancaster coach Dean Johnson Dean Elton Johnson (born June 24, 1947) was formerly the majority leader of the Minnesota Senate. He was first elected to the Senate in 1982 and represented the 13th Senate District.  was pleased to hear the news.

``She's a great player, and we want to play against the best, so I'm happy that she's OK,'' he said.

--Who's in first? The classic Abbott and Costello Abbott and Costello (kŏstĕl`ō), American comedy team of William Alexander "Bud" Abbott, 1895–1974, b. Asbury Park, N.J., and Lou Costello, 1906–59, b. Paterson, N.J., as Louis Francis Cristillo.  skit is ``Who's on first?'' The Golden League softball race is getting to be almost as comical.

Each week it seems another team has climbed into the playoff picture. First it was Palmdale, after its victory over Quartz Hill. Then, last week, Lancaster and Littlerock won twice to force a four-way tie for first.

``It is pretty odd,'' Lancaster coach Dean Johnson said. ``Everybody is going to be playing each other in the second half, and I think it'll all sort itself out. I really think there will just be one winner.''

Lancaster, Littlerock, Quartz Hill and Highland are 5-2. Palmdale is a 1 1/2 games back at 3-3.
