Talk about a false start.

Spring break is usually something high school players and coaches look forward to, but the timing of this year's break comes just after the Foothill League softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  season started.

Teams played their first two league games last Tuesday Last Tuesday is a Christian melodic punk rock band hailing from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They played their final show on March 10th, 2007.  and Saugus entered prestigious tournaments to stay sharp, Hart coach Cathy Giordano gave her team the week off.

``Our tournament plans fell through, but actually I think we needed a break,'' she said. ``This is the first time I've ever given them the whole week off, but I think they needed it.''

Hart will not practice until Saturday and Giordano hopes her players use the time to ``re-focus'' on the rest of the season.

Hart lost to Valencia for the sixth consecutive time Tuesday but rebounded to defeat Canyon on Thursday.

``I think what we really have to do is work on our execution, we haven't been doing a good job of moving runners around the basepaths,'' Giordano said. ``It was a better second game (against Valencia), but we still didn't score against a good defensive team like Valencia. Just putting the ball in play isn't going to get the job done.''

--Saugus doing well: Yes, that's Saugus atop the Foothill League standings along with Valencia.

Granted, only two games have been played and Saugus has not yet played Hart or Valencia, but the Centurions are showing signs of life after missing the playoffs the past two years.

Saugus (10-4) did well this weekend at the Woodbridge of Irvine tournament, getting victories over Bishop Amat of La Puente La Puente (lä pwĕn`tē), city (1990 pop. 36,955), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles; laid out 1841, inc. 1956. Kyla Sullivan has pitched well for Saugus in her first two Foothill League games, and Ashley Arnett has done well in relief.

Arnett also singled in Lauren Balderman with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning in·ning
