WHO'S HOT

--Robyn Kontra, Hart: The senior pitcher has led Hart to five consecutive victories, including key Foothill League wins over Saugus and Valencia. On April 1, Kontra threw a two-hitter in a 1-0 upset of then-No. 1 Valencia.

--Christina Ross, Valencia: The senior left-hander has thrown a perfect game and a no-hitter in back-to-back games. Ross pitched a perfect game with 12 strikeouts in a 2-0 victory Tuesday over Canyon and had a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in a 1-0 victory Monday over Marina of Huntington Beach Huntington Beach, city (1990 pop. 181,519), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast, across from Santa Catalina Island, in an oil-producing area; inc. 1909. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks will play host to Harvard-Westlake of Studio City in a crucial game Monday at 2:45 p.m. Notre Dame, Harvard-Westlake and Chaminade of West Hills have emerged as the league's top teams but each year there seems to be a surprise team so every game is critical.

Last year, Alemany of Mission Hills made a late-season charge and advanced to the Div. IV championship game.

--Pacific: Glendale will play at Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  of La Crescenta at 3 p.m. today. In a matchup of the league's leading hitter and pitcher. Crescenta Valley's Lauren Strangis (10-2) has stepped right into the No. 1 spot in the rotation for the graduated Sarah Sherman and led C.V. to a 12-2 record. She'll face the area's leading hitter in Audrey Andrade of Glendale.

But it's not the first time the two have faced each other.

``We've been friends since we were little, but she and I have always been on different teams,'' Andrade said. ``We played at Foothill Little League and together on an All-Star team. We also both went to Verdugo Woodland Elementary school elementary school: see school. .''

Strangis and Michelle McCauley combined on a perfect game and struck out 11 of the 15 batters they faced in a 34-0 victory Tuesday over Muir of Pasadena.

--West Valley: The biggest news this week was El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

of Woodland Hills' 3-0 victory in 10 innings over Granada Hills. But both teams had to feel heartened by news from outside the area. Carson, which has played in the City championship game each of the past four years and defeated El Camino Real in the semifinals last season, lost 3-1 Tuesday to Banning of Wilmington to fall to 3-1 in the league.

That could have huge implications come playoff time as Carson was widely expected to earn the No. 1 or No. 2 seed, but could drop lower if they lose to San Pedro today or May 3 or again to Banning on April 29.

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

The fourth annual Daily News Victory Spring Classic begins Saturday at Hjelte Sports Complex in Encino. The event is free to the public.

The 16-team tournament includes five teams ranked in the top 10 by the Daily News - Oaks Christian of Westlake Village, Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , El Camino Real of Woodland Hills, Westlake and Village Christian of Sun Valley. Three other teams, Granada Hills, Agoura and Newbury Park have been ranked at one point during the season.

Oaks Christian of Westlake Village will put its 44-game winning streak Noun 1. winning streak - a streak of wins

on the line beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday against Birmingham of Lake Balboa. Oaks Christian's streak is the third-longest in Southern Section history.

Two of the most interesting first-round matchups are El Camino Real of Woodland Hills against Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta and Village Christian of Sun Valley against San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

Crescenta Valley has won the tournament two of three years it's been played and never lost a game on the first weekend of play. El Camino Real scored a big victory over West Valley League rival Granada Hills on Tuesday and has one of the area's top young players in sophomore catcher Francesca Enea.

But Jeanine Deno, one of Crescenta Valley's top hitters, suffered a concussion last week on vacation in Laughlin, Nev. Deno was riding a jet ski when a friend crashed into her. She said she was doing well and would play at least in the first game of the day. Deno is scheduled to participate in the Battle of the Valley all-star basketball game at 5 p.m. at Cal State Northridge, which could conflict with C.V.'s second game of the day.

Village Christian, a Div. V school, proved it could play with anyone at the Foothill tournament two weeks ago, but it's also shown it can lose to anyone, such as Burbank, which is the last-place team in the Foothill League. San Fernando (5-6) has a dominating pitcher in Selena Salazar.
