Byline: Gerry Gittelson Staff Writer

The final is Saturday at 1 p.m.

``She decided not to play anymore, and she won't be coming back,'' coach Suzanne Manlet said. ``Yes, I'm surprised, but we're going to be fine.''

Kilionski was 3-0 this season, including a 14-strikeout shutout against Buena of Ventura. As a freshman, she was called up midseason and finished 8-3 with 117 strikeouts and only eight walks in 93 innings.

MAKING THEIR PITCH

Village Christian of Sun Valley pitchers Jessica McIntosh and Lauren Nydam have been tearing it up, even though the Division V Crusaders (5-0) are playing against larger schools such as Glendale, Burroughs of Burbank and Rowland.

Neither has given up an earned run earned run

``I think they're doing awesome,'' first-year coach Jana Kovar said. ``They've really stepped up their game, and they have a lot of confidence for their age.''

BUILT FOR SPEED

``I think Nancy has a good chance,'' coach Don Speed said. ``All she has to do is average two per game. Every time she gets on base, she goes. Either the first pitch or the second pitch.''

ON THE HORIZON

Two of the area's biggest tournaments begin March 30. The Daily News Invitational, featuring 16 teams, begins pool play at various sites and finishes April 7. The fourth annual High Desert Classic at Lancaster City Park also gets under way, hosted by Highland of Palmdale.

Problem is, she tore ligaments in her foot on the dance floor, and now she's out for three weeks.

``Ugh, don't even ask,'' coach Keri Borzello said.

STILL THROWIN' STRIKES

Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  is off to a great start, as usual. After shutting out Glendora on one hit Wednesday, the senior right-hander is 4-1 with no earned runs, 67 strikeouts and 12 hits in 34 innings.

Her only loss was a 2-1 decision against Downey on Saturday, both runs coming unearned in the seventh inning.

Cervenka was featured on the television show ``Inside Cal-Hi Sports'' on Monday.

``The whole team got together and watched it together. I felt like such a dork,'' Cervenka said.

Besides her softball exploits, Cervenka has another reason to be excited. She finally got her driver's license Noun 1. driver's license - a license authorizing the bearer to drive a motor vehicle

FINALLY, A HOME HOMER

Valencia slugger Lauren Watson, who entered the season with 14 career home runs, all on the road, homered at home in Monday's victory over Alemany of Mission Hills.

Usually the wind blows in at Valencia, but not this time.

``It was great,'' said Watson, who has committed to Brigham Young.

Watson is off to a torrid start and so is Valencia. She's 7 for her last 10, pumping her batting average batting average

Right-hander Tori Rocco (4-1) already has three no-hitters. She'll oppose Quartz Hill's Amanda Ricker at Quartz Hill on Tuesday and Chaminade's Christina Lupacchini at Valencia on Thursday. If the Vikings win both games, they should have plenty of momentum heading into Foothill League competition.

``I'm really enjoying the team this year because everyone is playing awesome,'' Watson said. ``We're not taking anything for granted.''

LEAGUE UPDATES

GOLDEN

Antelope Valley's 17-0 victory at Lone Pine on Friday gave the Antelopes a 3-1 record, their best start in recent memory. Sonia Iturfalde and Jamie Parker, both freshmen, are two to watch. Iturfalde was 3 for 5 with a single, double and triple - ``She almost hit for the cycle,'' coach Kristi Speir said - and Parker threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and was 2 for 4 at the plate. WEST VALLEY

Cleveland could be the team of the future. The Cavaliers of Reseda are 2-0 and have outscored opponents 19-6 even though the team has one junior and the rest sophomores and freshmen. Coach Kim Kelly Kim Kelly (born April 4, 1962 in Halifax, Nova Scotia as Kim Ackles) is a Canadian curler, throwing third stones for Mary-Anne Arsenault's Nova Scotia rink. From 1991 until 2006 she played third for Colleen Jones with whom she won five national championships and two world  touts freshman Karla Lemus as ``one of the best shortstops I've ever seen, especially for a ninth-grader.''

FOOTHILL

Burbank, expecting a rebuilding season after ace pitcher Emily Brower's graduation, is a surprising 7-1-2. Sophomore Kristin Talamantes, who has played catcher, outfield and first base, is leading the team with a .400 average.

FRONTIER

Defending Division IV champion Calabasas (0-1-1) didn't score a run through its first two games, but with the league opener today at 3:30 at Malibu, coach Barbara Hofer feels OK about her team. ``We're just really young after graduating eight starters,'' she said. ``We have four or five freshmen, including pitcher Shelly Madick. She is going to be really tough.''

DELPHIC

Montclair Prep of Van Nuys sophomore Brandy Hawkins batted right-handed last year and drove in 28 runs, earning All-Southern Section honors. This year, she is experimenting as a left-handed batter, and coach Ken Smith said he isn't sure if the switch is permanent. ``She's about half and half,'' he said. ``If she's comfortable left-handed and it works out, she'll bat leadoff. If she bats right-handed, she'll bat third or fourth.''
