SOFTBALL BEAT: LITTLE SCHOOL PLAYS VERY BIG : EAGLES' CORNERSTONE IS CONSISTENCY.

Byline: Jim Inghram Daily News Staff Writer

When you have just under 100 students, as Cornerstone Christian does, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle when you're surrounded by big schools like Camarillo, Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown. .

However, the Eagles don't let size bother them.

The Camarillo school is having a typically fine season with a 15-4 record overall and 7-0 record in the Condor League.

``We have a young team,'' said coach Mike Monzo, ``but we have ballplayers at every position and a solid bench.''

The big story for the Eagles has been the domination of pitcher Julie Hartnell. The 5-foot-8 sophomore has thrown four no-hitters and two one-hitters in her last six appearances.

``She throws hard and has been working on her changeup change·up

,'' Monzo said. ``She has been striking out a lot of people with that changeup.''

The offense is humming along nicely, too.

and Liz Johnston are each hitting in the .400 range.

``Our team offense is around .360,'' Mike Monzo said. ``And with the way Julie has been pitching, well, we've been winning.''

Said sophomore catcher Sarene Aguilera: ``Everyone is hitting, playing well on defense and Julie is really pitching good. Things are just going good.''

Eagles' alumnae aren't doing too badly, either.

Julia Tamai, who lead the team last season, is the starting shortstop at Wright State in Dayton, Ohio Dayton is a city in southwestern Ohio, United States.  were trailing Cerritos 2-0 with two on and two outs in the top of the sixth and final inning of a quarterfinal game in their tournament Saturday. Lacey Cope was at the plate.

``I wasn't thinking anything about a home run,'' Cope said. ``I was thinking about the score and trying to get a hit but not a home run.''

Well, a home run is what the Humboldt State-bound senior hit to give her team a 3-2 lead and ultimately the victory.

``I got a rise ball that didn't rise,'' Cope said. ``I thought I got jammed, but when I looked at the left fielder and saw her chasing it "Chasing It" is the eighty-first episode of the HBO original series, The Sopranos, and the fourth episode of the second half of the show's sixth season. Cope's efforts moved the Lancers into the semifinals Saturday. They will take on Chaminade of West Hills.
